Help

I am fairly new to serviio, which i have used for many months without any issues. All of a sudden I am not able to see all my films in the folders connected via DLNA, the strange thing is that I am able to see all of them on the web client but not able to view them on the folder structure, these are the steps I follow, Linked devices>Video> Movies ( This is where not all videos are shown, all films stopp at the letter "S"). As said earlier on if I use the web client all films are there. Strange thing is that when I click on videos on the Smart share all the films are there but totally unorganised, basically I can see all the series and films in one location.

This is what I have done so far;
1 reset all permissions to admin, but they were already admin
2 re linked the share in Serviio
3 Force meta Tag

I am using winows 2008 server
My Tv is a LG , which worked perfectly previously, it cannot be the tv as I can see this in the Video tab in the smart share unorganised.

Can someone please help or give me some direction

I hae checked the log in serviio there are loads of files it does not recogise the file type

Re: Help

can you post ffmpeg -i for some of these files?

But if you miss some movies in the TV view which are there in MediaBrowser, then it's probably a limitation of the TV (I think Samsungs, for example, only allow up to 1000 entries in one 'folder'))

Re: Help

Zip meant that you need to provide information about your media file. FFMPEG is a program that can go that. You have to run it from a command line. The format is
  Code:
ffmpeg -i file name

You may need to type the full path to both of them. Also, if your file name has spaces in it, make sure you enclose the complete file name in quotes ("). Copy the results in a post here.

Re: Help

Computers use something called a PATH statement that tells the operating system where to look for specific files. If a program (such as FFMPEG) cannot be found in any of the defined paths, then you need to enter the full path to the program. On Windows 7, that path is "C:\program files\Serviio\lib\ffmpeg.exe". This is called a full path. Notice you are missing the space between "program" and "files". Also, your slash is the wrong one. Use the back slash (the key above the enter key). You will also need to enter the full path to your video file.

I see in that picture that you are running the command from your user folder (C:\users\nilesh). If you don't want to enter the full path to your video, change your working folder to your video location with the CD command (Windows default location: C:\users\nilesh\videos). Remember what I said about enclosing the file name in quotes if there are any spaces in the file name.

Re: Help

Really appreciate your help, this is what I have done, please advise where I am going wrong. So that you know I have 2 drives on my server, C drive where I have an application , and that is and SSD drive , and S drive , where the serviio folder resides.

Once again do appreciate your patience with me. :D

Re: Help

Looks like the path to FFMPEG needs to be in quotes as well. I also see a spacing error.

Sigh, sometimes Windows plays nice, and sometimes it get cantankerous. Kinda like me...

If I read your command correctly, this is how the command should be entered. Notice the spacing between the command path and the file path:

C:\Users\nilesh>"C:\Program Files\Serviio\lib\ffmpeg.exe" "S:\serviio\The Notebook (2004) [1080p]\The.Notebook.2004.1080p.BlueRay.x264.YIFY.MP4"

That's assuming I got the path to your movie file correct as the S drive, Serviio folder, and a folder named for the movie.

Re: Help

Wow, that's a wild one! I've seen that type of box appear before, but not using FFMPEG. And this error is Windows based, saying it has an issue trying to run FFMPEG. It has nothing to do with the video file you are trying to test. Have no clue why it would error, as I never have a problem. It is possible that you need to run it as Administrator. You can do that by right-clicking the CMD applet and select "Run as Administrator".

Let's try something easier. Download MediaInfo (http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo). Install this, and then you can simply right click on a media file and view the information about the file. FFMPEG sometimes includes more information, but MediaInfo is easier to use. ;)

Re: Help

I'm going to make a guess, and hopefully one of the brighter dudes here will chime in if I'm off base. Under Format Profile it says L5. If I understand that correctly, many devices have difficulty with any level above L4.1. It's also showing H.263, which again may be something that most players won't recognize. Actually, it may be the XVID codec that is the issue.

So, the profile needs to recognize one of these and transcode the files into something playable. This might work, but again I'm not an expert on building profiles:

<Matches container="avi" vCodec="XVID"/>

However, I can't find XVID as a video codec that is recognized by Serviio. Here's what the web site specifies under "Matches"
  Code:
vCodec - optional; name of video codec of the original file or omit to transcode any video codec in the container; possible values: mpeg2video, mpeg1video, wmv2, mpeg4, msmpeg4, h263, h264, vc1, mjpeg, flv, vp6, vp8, theora, dvvideo, rv

So, maybe the h263 would be what would be captured by Serviio. In that case, use that instead of XVID in the matches line above. Remember that after editing the profiles.xml file the Serviio service must be restarted. Rebooting the computer is the simplest way to do that if you are unfamiliar with the administrative tools in Windows.

Ok I have an even bigger issue now, well I have just opened up serviio from the DLNA client on my TV and there are no video files available, I have tried to do a force refresh but that greyed out. When I do a rescan meta Tag and show status there is no status.

Any help or direction would be much appreciated

Re: Help

That file you just posted the info for has video and audio codecs that are playable on most devices, AVC video and AAC audio. That's likely why it plays fine. Compared to the original one you posted, both the video and audio codecs are completely different animals. :D The first file has AC-3 audio, and that should play on anything, so the problem has to be the video codec.

When no playable files are listed, that usually means that for some reason Serviio doesn't recognize anything in that folder as playable on your device. One cause might be that your device has changed its IP address, and now has an incorrect profile assigned to it. Check the status tab in the Serviio console and make sure your playback device IP address matches the one shown in the console.

Any time you make a change to the profiles.xml file, the Serviio background process must be stopped and restarted. If you know how to restart a service on your computer, that's faster than a reboot. However, if you are unsure about it, a reboot is never bad form. As to if it will resolve your issues, that depends of if the changes made to the profiles file make any difference.

Re: Help

From the OP it appears that ffmpeg was not extracting the information Serviio needs for the media file - when this happens Serviio will determine that the file is not a valid media file, and will not add it to the library. If its not added to the library you wont see it on your TV (or via Mediabrowser).

Can you please post ffmpeg -i information for one of the files in the error list: eg. S:\serviio\Finding.Nemo.2003.1080p.BluRay\RARBG.COM.mp4 - its strange because ffmpeg seems to be working correctly.
On doing a Force Refresh do you still get these error messages in the log?
If so, check file permissions on the files to ensure that the user that Serviio logs in as has read access to the file. Try moving the file to folder on a different drive and sharing that folder - this will help define whether its a permissions issue or a Serviio/ffmpeg issue.

For the second issue (all files disappearing) you appear to have your media files on a remote drive. I suspect the reason that the files disappeared is that the drive was not mounted (or otherwise not accessible) at the time of the library refresh. Serviio will then detect that the files no longer exist, and remove them from the library. This can sometimes happen on startup where the drive takes time to mount.

This behaviour has been fixed in the next release - due out shortly. In the meantime, make sure the drive is available and press Force Refresh. If Force Refresh is still greyed out, check that all folders are still in the library. Is Save also greyed out, if not press Save or the other button (sorry not in front of Serviio at the moment).
