Playlist not showing on Client

I have installed Serviio on a Win 7 PC. I plan to use it more as a music player than for video.
Everything works so far except for playlists.
I create a simple playlist with Windows Media Player and save with it both the wpl and m3u extensions. I put these into a folder called Playlists and add it to the library. A Force Refresh finds the files and shows the files as found in Status.
When I try to call up the playlist, the Playlists folder is empty. I have done this a number of times with different folders and locations.
As a check I added an mp3 file to the Playlists folder in the same way. This does show up (and play)
The clients I have tried are MediaHouse on Android phone and tablet and Samsung Allshare on PC and TV. The same result for all of them.
What am I missing here. Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Playlist not showing on Client

I have multiple playlists that have no issues. They appear and everything plays on all devices. I used Playlist Creator (Windows program, freeware) to set them up, and they are saved in .pls format, but it can also save in m3u format which also works with no issues. It's possible that MS Media Player isn't formatting the file correctly.

Re: Playlist not showing on Client

Are the files you reference in the playlists also shared in in console?

Re: Playlist not showing on Client

Thank you Zip and atc98092. Together you nailed it. It turns out that not all the mp3 files I referenced were shared in console. (It seems that if this is the case then Serviio does not recognise the playlist)
Using Windows Media Player you cannot be sure of where the particular file you include in the playlist is residing - particularly if your storage is a bit haphazard like me.
By using Playlist Creator you know the path to each file chosen and then can ensure that each path is shared in Console.
As a side issue you can open .pls files in a text editor and see all your paths.
I am interested in any comments you might have.
Thanks

Re: Playlist not showing on Client

Funny, I'm having the same problem with my Xbox One client. It picks up weird meta data for tagging videos and doesn't seem to see any of my .M3U files. Can I create an xml file with a list of songs, is there one out there that I don't know of. I also draw a blank on Amazon playlists, but I also draw a blank on those in the Mac explorer (OS X 10.10, bleeding edge..).

Re: Playlist not showing on Client

Open the WMP m3u play list (It is more intuitive then the wpl) that you created with notepad. Be sure that the path of the MP3 files are the same as the path or locations that you detailed in Serviio Console.

Creating a playlist in WMP will save the info according to the defaults in WMP. A simple copy to a playlist folder will not necessarily work. When you configure WMP libraries set up an additional library that points to where the serviio library paths the media files. Set that library as the default save location and then create the playlist. When you create a WMP playlist it should create the "playlist folder" if it doesn't already exist. Check the folder to be sure and then force the update.

There is always a delay in playlists populating, but you generally see them more quickly using the "localhost" connection on the bottom of the remote tab in the console.

If the playlist path does not match the serviio console library settings serviio will add the playlis file but there will be no content to display.
