Retrieving metadata seems to be mandatory

It took me some time to figure out why the videos I have shot myself are not shown.
The reason was that their names could not be found when trying to retrieve metadata.
If I rename them providing them with names from known movies it works.

Unfortunately when unchecking off "Retrieve descriptive metadata" in the Console's library not movies will be shown at all.
And when I activate the button and try to deactivate the search for metadata in the 'Metadata' section of the Console no movies will be shown, either.

Is there a way to become independent of metadata at all?

Thanks for helping!

Re: Retrieving metadata seems to be mandatory

I'm not sure I understand, but what I do is have all my backups of commercial movies in one shared folder (with "Retrieve descriptive metadata" turned on) and all my Home Movies in another shared folder (with "Retrieve descriptive metadata" off). This way I get the best of both worlds - all my commercial backups are catalogued correctly in the "Movies", "Directors", "Actors" etc categories under Serviio and also appear under the Folders category; but all my Home Movies only appear under the Folders category.

Note that the folders should be independant of each other (ie. not a sub-folder of the other).

Thanks, I'd do it the same way but my problem is that when I turn the metadata off for the private folder NO video will be shown at all.

They should be shown in the Folders category, not under Movies or Series.

Thanks. It seems we are close to the solution.

When opening the Media Browser there are only 3 categories (music, picture/images, movies).
The first two don't get me anywhere.

In the 'movies' category there is a subcategory "folders", but it is empty even though I activated it in the console.

However, I can find the private films if I look in "titles". Unfortunately only first letters are displayed.

I can also find them if I search for a name. Then the movie appears including thumbnail. It shows that is it supposed to be situated in the category "files".
However, I cannot find direct access to a category called "files".

In the 'Media Browser' which I opened with the link from the console there are only 3 categories: "Musik", "Bild", "Filme". Opening "Filme" there is a category "Ordner" (folders). When I open it it is empty.

that is weird, perhaps there is something wrong with the database.

Can you try on the TV via DLNA? Or ServiiGo on Android?

It does not work with DLNA as my Samsung TV does not communicate via AllShare with my Mac. This problem is supposed to be bridged with Serviio.
Have no device which works with Android.

Any other idea for a solution?

Can you post detailed log when browsing to the folders category that is empty?

Thanks. Will do so asap. Right now traveling for my job. Little time to get deeply into it.
