New User and New Installation with my feedback

Hello,

I want to add my few ideas here.
First of all I tested, mediatomb, minilan, mythvideo and now serviio.

Currently I use mythtv to record a video stream and cut it afterwards. During the cut I translate them to h264 -q 15 and mp2 audio. I got all the detailed information in the mythtv database. My problem with mythtv: I'm not able to setup on the fly transcoding for all the different devices. (Samsung TV, IPhone, IPad, Windows8 - Lumina 920)

As a next step I try to use mindlna (Doesn't work, Transcoding not possible), mediatomb (Transcoding is there, but doesn't work on my Samsung TV). So I come two serviio.

Pro's for Serviio: Transcoding on the fly, possibility to add unkown clients.

My wish list: I want to store own client profiles in a database. As far as I know, serviio scans the device and setup a universal one. I think it is a good idea to store a profile together with an IP Adresse in a database.
I miss more: Media Handling like mythtv. I would ask for a feature to store the scaned files in a database to add descriptions, titles and so on. Maybe also tags like I love it, bad quality, record again etc. So I think a database backend to handle video and audio content will be a good idea.

Greetings from Germany
Helmut

Re: New User and New Installation with my feedback

devices are detected and assigned a profile based on the config in profiles.xml. If you have a specific device that isn't working under say the samung profile. A bit of tweaking will allow you to create an alternate profile that will apply to your device. The status tab of the console will show the ip's of all devices it detects and allow to you assign specific configs that will override the detected one.
