Doesn't work with Yamaha RX-A2000 Receiver

Serviio server comes up on the Yamaha's console screen, but trying to view any files returns "access error." Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try to go there through the Folders category. Still the same?

Re: Doesn't work with Yamaha RX-A2000 Receiver

Well, sorry to say that but it won't work!

Yamaha AV Amps and Receivers do not support pictures and / or Videos, they do only support certain audio formats.

personally I do own a RX- V 773 but did not find an RX-A2000 but RX-A2010 and 2020 on their homepage.

The Manual says:
You can play back music files stored on your PC or DLNA compatible
NAS on this unit.
• To use this function, this unit and your PC must be connected to the network
properly.
• This unit supports playback of WAV (PCM format only), MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC
and FLAC files.
• This unit is compatible with sampling frequency of up to 96 kHz for WAV and
FLAC files, and 48 kHz for other files.
• To play back FLAC files, you need to install server software that supports sharing
of FLAC files via DLNA on your PC or use a NAS that supports FLAC files.
Requirements
This unit can play back music files stored on the following music
servers.
- PC with Windows Media Player 11 or later installed
- PC with DLNA/UPnP certificate server software installed
- NAS with DLNA/UPnP certification

So If you want to playback videos you will need a TV that supports that or a streaming player that can playback Videos. (having my pc connected to my Yamaha using HDMI and selecting the TV as 2nd monitor works fine here, The Receiver takes the Audio and the TV gets the video)

I would not recommend using any windows media player, it's boring slow, does not support flac without hacks or addons. I didn't manage to get it working with my 35000 audio files.
Serviio on the other hand works excellent here, is fast and does support flac.

... And yes zip going through the folders is the same, the Receiver just shows files it does support.

Re: Doesn't work with Yamaha RX-A2000 Receiver

Thanks, Mik -- I'm aware of the Yamaha instructions. I'm not trying to play video -- just audio. I've tried various media servers and I find them all to be a waste of time. DLNA is so poorly standardized and implemented that these manufacturers should not even be promoting it. I found a far easier solution: My kids XBox is a great media server when networked to my Win7 pc. All media on the pc can be accessed on my TV and the RX-A2000 can play all my music files without any problem. Of course, it's the XBox managing all the media. The interface isn't perfect, but it's far better than Windows Media Player, and FAR better than the idiotic interface Yamaha provides. I'm not wasting my time with DLNA any more. Thanks for your advice, though! Good luck with your own connections.

Re: Doesn't work with Yamaha RX-A2000 Receiver

Well, in that case it should work with serviio, you just need to add the Folders to your library in the console (2nd tab) and force a refresh.
Search for updates and keep library automatically updated makes it easier if you add files to the shared folders.
Serviio does not use any windows shares or shares from windows media player.
Xbox sounds nice but I won't buy one just for media sharing. As long as I don't have the need to view video via dlna I will be fine with just my pc.

Re: Doesn't work with Yamaha RX-A2000 Receiver

Yep, did that. Added my music folders to the Serviio library and refreshed. The Yamaha sees the server, but doesn't see the folders -- gives me an error msg. You've inspired me to try again before I delete Serviio. Thanks again.
