Serviio 1.0.1 - Comments

Just updated to 1.0.1, and I must say the Media Browser feature is outstanding. I just opened up a browser, pointed to my Serviio app, and boom - instant access to my media files with no need for any 3rd party apps.

My Setup:
WHS2011 Server running Serviio with about 12TB of BluRays, MKV Rips, MP3's and Photo's.
Using DLNA - XBOX 360, PCH200, Dune HDDUO, Pioneer AVR, Transformer Tablet, 3 Android Phones. All access the WHS Serviio Server with no problems whatsoever.

Up until now, I only used Serviio for music, but after the update I added a folder of MKV's to the library and they've been playing flawlessly. (got one running in another Firefox tab right now)

Only complaint so far, minor, is that I can't FF or RW the video. Not sure if it's due to the file I'm using being too large to buffer (8GB MKV) but it's definitely not a showstopper. Can't wait to set up remote access so I can view away from home.

Great Job Rip. I'll be purchasing Pro as soon as my 15 day trial is done (yeah, I'm a cheap SOB :D )

Re: Serviio 1.0.1 - Comments

Something good happened for me after installing 1.0.1, adding media is a lot faster now, and it picks up the media immediately, before i had to remove all dirs, and re add them again to get it to find new media ...

All video is transcoded into flash. Is there a reason for not using html5?

Yes, there is not video standard for html5 yet and it doesn't support live streams afaik. Also it looks like h264 will not be html5 video codec of choice but most of your content is h264, so it'd involve transcoding of almost every video, losing quality and consuming CPU.

I really like the idea of the new Serviio Media Browser - great new feature, however...

1. I'll be purchasing once you provide a version which does not depend on Flash - so I can use it on Apple products (iPhone, iPad etc. - that's what I really want it for)

2. An "updating..." message in the main folders / categories navigation area would be useful - when I first updated to 1.0.1 and rebooted, and then opened the media browser it looked as though it could only see certain folders. I have a large media library, and there was no obvious indication that it was still updating.

That being said, the 'add' process seems to go through much more quickly than in previous versions!

The FlowPlayer 5.0.0-dev version works with HTML5. I'm not sure what features/functions are supported though.
Using Serviio on Debian "Wheezy" with Xbox 360, Sony BDP-S370 & Panasonic E6.
