it works better than uShare

I just want to sing the praises of serviio. My previous multimedia server app was something called uShare which I thought worked pretty well. But now I have tried serviio and it is just so much better. I stream from a linux box to my Xbox 360 over wireless and on the uShare my videos would stutter and pause. But not with serviio. They just stream smoothly.

I don't really understand why they seem to work better on serviio. Is serviio transcoding them to lower bit rate so that they stream better over my wireless? Not that I care why. They just work And I can play .mp4 files now on the Xbox - which I guess is due to the automatic transcoding.

The only thing I am still not happy with is some of the meta data serviio has picked for some of my stuff. "Red Riding Trilogy - the year of our lord 1973" is a crime drama not ep1 of season one of Fur TV and is not called Rent Boys/Hot Pussy !!!.

I have managed to fix a lot of my meta data issues by going the databases that serviio uses and finding my programs there and then renaming the files to match what is in the database. But I cant get rid of my rent boys/hot pussy!!

It is in a folder called TV. And here is the wierd thing. The file name is different when I view it from my windows box connected to my Linux box over a Samba share than when I view it from the linux box natively. Might be some thing to do with file name size. On the linux box it is called s01e01.Red Riding: IN the Year of Our Lord 1974.avi and it is visible as this name in the Folders view of the serviio server on my xbox.
But the file name when viewed from XP over the samba share is S8MFQT~1.AVI

Re: it works better than uShare

try to rename it to

  Code:
Red Riding.s01e01: IN the Year of Our Lord 1974.avi

or similar, but the series name must be before the episode numbers

Yay. Yep that worked. So it appears to me that the rule about series name needs to before season number / ep number does not apply if the file is in a folder named for the series. Is this correct?

If you got alot of files named incorrectly like this, try using TheRenamer
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2878
Sony Bravia 2010 52NX803 - Sony PS3 - Xbox 360
Serviio running on QNAP NAS 639 Pro - 1.6 Intel Dual Core - 2GB RAM and QNAP NAS 121 - 2Ghz ARM Marvell - 1GB RAM
Console using ServiiDroid for Android, ServiiMetro and ServiiWP for Windows Phone and WebUI for iOS

Re: it works better than uShare

Ok. Here is another wierd one. Files are in folder "The Fabric of the Cosmos (Nova 2011)"
4 files
NovaS39E5.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 1.avi
NovaS39E6.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 2.avi
NovaS39E7.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 3.avi
NovaS39E8.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 4.avi

But only the first 3 files appear in Series > NOVA>Season 39 folder when served up by Serviio.

All 4 appear in "Last Added" but the part 4 one is listed as "NovaS39E8.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 4" whereas the other 3 are "NOVA (39/7):The Fabric of the Cosmos - Quantum Leap" etc.

I guess maybe the oline metadata database is missing Part 4 or something. I will check.

edit: Nope. part 4 is there at http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&ser ... 6007&lid=7 as NOVA Season 39 8 : The Fabric of the Cosmos - Universe or Multiverse?
Just like part 3 being down as NOVA Season 39 7 : The Fabric of the Cosmos - Quantum Leap

Edit2: Must have been a one off glitch of some description because just renaming NovaS39E8.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 4.avi to NovaS39E8.Fabric of the Cosmos - Part 4a.avi has caused the Meta data to be grabbed again and now the file appears in the correct place.
