Re: Synology and network setup

If you're using my Synology package, you'll find the log at /volume1/@appstore/Serviio/log/serviio.log

It's mentioned on the download page for it:
DSM Package Center installs the application to /volume1/@appstore/Serviio though from what I understand, on multi-volume systems the user is prompted for a destination volume.

Re: Synology and network setup

You can't navigate to it in the DSM. It's available by telnet or SSH terminal sessions only.
You'd need to connect, then copy the log to the public folder like so:
cp /volume1/@appstore/Serviio/log/serviio.log /volume1/public

Then you can download it from the public shared folder.

Re: Synology and network setup

Thank you - your patience is appreciated, all now much clearer - i have some more learning to do :-)

I have the log from the NAS here now

The TV still does not 'see' serviio - and neither does 'Device Spy' - andentering the ip address 192.168.1.50 of the 211j receives the message 'could not load device'

Re: Synology and network setup

Did you use 192.168.1.50 as the bound IP address?

Re: Synology and network setup

Hello - yes 192.168.1.50 is the bound ip address (in the serviio windows remote console)

serviio windows remote consle does see this ip address as an 'unrecognised device' with orange dot, and the TV ip address red dot, in the Status tab.

Re: Synology and network setup

An update - the TV can now 'see' serviio in its media servers list, with a green dot in windows serviio remote console. And i can see photos and navigate to music folders, but nothing at all in the video folders on the TV yet....

Not sure why it is now visible, i dont think that i changed anything.... will leave it indexing.....

Thank you for this - newbie question again , new to putty too..... never knowingly used a terminal before...

Looking at plugins now, and i have put the iplayer.groovy file into the synology public folder, but a similar command doesnt mofie it to the serviio/plugins folder - returning a 'cannot create - permission denied' message - i obviously have the sntax incorrectly - but cant find reference to plugins installation on synology here...

Thanks again for your patience.

Re: Synology and network setup

I released a new version of my package today. You can upgrade an existing install with it using the Package Centre. The new version will automatically import plugins found in the 'public' shared folder, as yours are.

Re: Synology and network setup

Re: Synology and network setup

Yeah, I only put that version up yesterday evening.
Since you've already installed it though, if your groovy plugins weren't installed you'll need to copy them via SSH as the user root, using the same password you set for the admin account on your NAS. Then:
  Code:
cp /volume1/public/*.groovy /volume1/@appstore/Serviio/plugins
chown -R serviio /volume1/@appstore/Serviio/plugins

That second command sets the owner back to the serviio user on those files.
The admin account's privileges aren't as high as root which is why you had that permission error before.

Re: Synology and network setup

This morning i experimented and stopped the serviio server embedded on the DS211j from running, and installed serviio as server onto one of the Windows XP machines, and hey presto, the TV see this XP serviio server quickly, finds files, audio video and photo quickly and plays most of them, quickly and cleanly... (from first short look it seems excellent), so the issue with finding the files with the TV and slowness is the embedded NAS implementation of serviio)

I hoped that this NAS embedded solution would be quick and mean that i did not need to have a PC running, but it seems not.

And stopping the embedded serviio running has speeded up other access to unrelated data files on the NAS hugely too.....

When serviio was running on the NAS i did not see excessive (it was 40-60%) CPU or memory useage , but this is now showing as 20-40%
