Wait for 0.6 version, there were a better Sony menu integration (no audio/photo categories folders into video section,etc...)

I'm not on the server PC atm, but I'll look at it later. I'm going to assume the link you mean is "HowTo: Provide details of a video file that doesn't play", which I'll follow. It's quite a few files but hopefully 1 will suffice.

Cheers!

Ok, so I've run ffmpeg -i on a file and here's the output:

Re: Sony KDL-32EX600 aspect ratio & music

Could you explain what is the problem when you start this movie file? video/audio stuttering? no video ? no audio? what is the TV message?
In profiles.xml file, on "Sony Bravia TV" section you could try to change the latest aBitrate="384" with aBitrate="192", then restart serviio service for modification to be taking into account.
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="192">

Re: Sony KDL-32EX600 aspect ratio & music

Hi Illico,

The file only shows on a portion of the screen on my Bravia - there is a lot of black area around the picture. It doesn't fill the entire screen. The same file played on my Pioneer 507 plasma through a PS3 fills the entire screen.

Probably because this file is not transcoded for PS3 and Pioneer, could you confirm that?
for aspect ratio, check the [8] remote control button

Press to change the screen format/wide mode.

How do I check if it's being transcoded for one and not the other

I can change the aspect ratio, but then it's stretched and all messed up for what I watch next. I have it set to "normal" which is how it should be?

Enable serviio detailed logging (see signature link), then restart serviio service, and check into the log file the ffmpeg command line used when file is transcoded or check the key word "native format" when the file is delivered in native format without remux/transcode.

NRB wrote:I can change the aspect ratio, but then it's stretched and all messed up for what I watch next. I have it set to "normal" which is how it should be?

On my KDL-46EX501, with some transcoded file I also have some aspect ratio problem (the bottom and top back bar were too big and the screen is flatten), but when display option is set to "zoom" (in french menu TV) the black bar were well displayed.
I don't know if it is a ffmpeg or a Sony DLNA issue...

Ok, you're spot on - when played to Bravia it's transcoded:

Ok, this as you can see from the very first post in this thread is not just letterbox black bars, but a complete black border around the picture (which I highlighted in red).

Thanks again.

Thanks again for looking into this Illico.

Wide Mode: Normal
Auto Wide: Off
4:3 default: Normal (greyed out)
Auto Display Area: Off (greyed out)
Display Area: Normal

I've changed it to Auto Wide: On, but it just stretches the image horizontally, giving letterbox look, but distorted picture. I'd prefer to watch a smaller picture with correct aspect ratio than this stretched version.

I've got a problem, you confirm that your Sony TV model is KDL-32EX600, because this model don't have any ETH connection, so how could you use serviio with it? :!: :?:

I can confirm that it is and it does. I don't use the LAN port though, but have the Sony wireless dongle connected.

foxy :D

I think you have to set "Auto Wide: On" and when bad aspect ratio appears (transcoded files) press remote command [8] and set to zoom.

Re: Sony KDL-32EX600 aspect ratio & music

I have a similiar problem with movies not showing correct aspect ratio with a Bravia KDL46ex713. Movies are being played with black bars on top and bottom of the movie instead of filling the screen.

I had the same problem when using PS3 Media server which was solved by adding a custom config for the TV into the Mencoder configs.

-vf softskip,expand=::::1:16/9,dsize=4/3

http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/forum/vie ... lem#p46357

Does Serviio have the ability to add options such as these into the profiles config ?

Thanks,
Ger.

Not yet, but if you found the equivalent ffmpeg option, that could be implemented.

Can the following switches be used for this ?

`-s size'
`hd1080'
1920x1080

`-aspect aspect'
Set aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9 or 1.3333, 1.7777)

Yes I know, but a clever implementation must be found.
First, try locally to found the good ffmpeg option, then implement them into serviio.
Some test have been done:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2039&p=11515&hilit=forceStereo#p11545
and a ticket is opened for addind ffmpeg extra option

Re: Sony KDL-32EX600 aspect ratio & music

Is there any chances of in future to include MEncoder? I still have to go back to PS3 Media Server only for .avi files
It's still freely available under GNU General Public License just like ffmpeg

The main reason I use ps3media server is MEncoder uses less CPU and transcode much faster than ffmpeg.
I run on a NAS Server with Intel 1.6
An example if I play a One hour 30 minute movie, it will use 100% of my CPU for about 30 minutes making my CPU temperature to rise very high
With ps3mediaserver along with MEncoder, same movie, it will use 100% CPU for the first 5 minutes and then drop down to under 10% keeping my CPU remain cool

The second reason I use ps3mediaserver is MEncoder plays the correct ratio every time when using "-vf softskip,expand=::::1:16/9,dsize=4/3" without messing with the remote to adjust to the correct ratio

I think Serviio will be the most complete media server if it did include MEncoder support
I've even compiled PS3 Media Server vs Serviio guide for other QNAP users to start using this amazing server, in most cases Serviio wins hands down - http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=252&t=47412
Sony Bravia 2010 52NX803 - Sony PS3 - Xbox 360
Serviio running on QNAP NAS 639 Pro - 1.6 Intel Dual Core - 2GB RAM and QNAP NAS 121 - 2Ghz ARM Marvell - 1GB RAM
Console using ServiiDroid for Android, ServiiMetro and ServiiWP for Windows Phone and WebUI for iOS
