Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

Hello,
I have been tinkering with my new Sony 40NX713 and serviio. Unfortunately the stream (.avi, .mkv, or .ts) is lost after 10 minutes. I am streaming via wifi from my Vista laptop through my BT HomeHub 2.0 (black curved one) then wifi to the TV. The TV streams lovefilm and BBC iplayer just fine over wifi, so I think the TV is capable. All of my home equipment is on fixed ip. The odd thing is when the stream is dropped I loose my wifi connections and the internet. I suspect a wifi router issue, but looking for your comments.

The log pasted below was my latest attempt to stream a .ts. Thanks for any help.

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

I would check and see if your router has logging capabilities. I would also try inSSIDer. It will actually log your wifi signal strength over time, so it should show if anything is happening with your wifi.

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

Hi b3n,

A relative was having problems with his TV losing connection to his UPNP server. (Loss of connection after 10-15 minutes)
The TV was a Loewe and the server was Twonky BUT the problem appeared to be the HomeHub 2. I added another router to the network to handle the media traffic and the problem went away.

Posts like this made me suspect the HH2

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

Thanks for the responses. I set this up on a second wireless router (b/g only) on a dedicated (no internet) network and was able to stream for several hours. Just before congratulating myself it went down. I was able to watch .ts, .mkv, and .avi files while it was working. (I will pull out the log and look at it later today)

I haven't looked at the insidder program yet, but that is next.

I hope I can work this out. Serviio is such a better solution than XBMC on an Acer Revo. I don't what several remotes cluttering my coffee table.

let me know if you have any other ideas.

make sure the 2 router are not on same wireless chanel as that would cause disconnects and personaly id say dump the home hub and replace completely with a decent netgear router as the home hub are more trouble than they are worth.

you can also read this on the BT forum and as a network engineer im shocked by the response shown by the support person here, makes me glad im on virgin meia and not BT if that how they " HELP " there customers.

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

I agree with your comments about BT. Thanks.

I have turned off Upnp on the BT HH2 (black curved model) as suggested in the links. The TV can now see Serviio each and every time, which is a remarkable improvement. Also as a result I can stream files for longer, but they still cut out after some time. I am in the middle of a debug run, so I will have a log to share later.

I also have some questions about the 2010 Bravia profile. I pulled out the most recent version from the forums, as I am having issues with stuttering during mkv playback. I have been following the forum closely (18 pages), but some things are a bit unclear. despite setting the maxVrate at "10000" mkv files still stutter. To get around this I found a profile that someone posted that forces transcoding of all files. With this profile all files show with a MPEG2 badge on the TV (previous profile mkv showed up with a AVC badge). ok....questions: is the quality better when the mkv is streamed as a AVC versus MPEG2? Where can I find how to read the profile code?

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

Streaming seems to be going well (touch wood), but still looking into stuttering mkv playback issues. I have two files ripped from the original DVD using handbrake (high profile). The ffmpeg -i info and it looks different than others I've seen posted. Can someone tell me if the method of ripping could be causing the stuttering:

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

This is driving me NUTS! I cannot get through an entire film with serviio over my wifi network! It streams smoothly but drops out after an hour or so. I can stream films using the Bravia Lovefilm app over wifi for hours on end, so the TV connection seem ok. If the router is the problem why would it cut out after an hour and a half? It even cuts out when wired to the TV.

I tried an alternative router, WRG 320N, which was also ineffective.

I altered my profile to transcode all files, so there should be no format issues.

Are there any other suggestions to get serviio working over my wifi network to my sony bravia kdl 40NX713?

the quality of router is a BIG factor cheap routers give a cheap experience.

Combined hubs are great for surfing the net from multiple pc but and rubbish if you wish to stream HD video over them, you better off geting the normal modem and then going out and buying a high spec GB router.

i try not to seem biased to one router maker on these forum to be fair to them all but i guess i can show you the one i personaly use:

http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/ ... R4000.aspx

price: approx. £120.00

No complex setup is required with this router you can almost plug it in and go. but if you do need any help i can talk you through it as i have one infront of me to reference :)

So BT made us an offer we can't refuse, so we'll keep the service. If I was to purchase a wifi router to improve streaming performance how would I integrate it into my home network: Bravia, BT HomeHub, and 3 laptops, iphones, etc....?

I would expect to run ethernet to the new wifi router (wifi on BTHH off) then route all wifi traffic through the new wifi router. Is it that easy? Is Serviio happy with this setup?

Again the reason to do all this is for Serviio to be stable and consistently stream files to my HDTV over home wifi.

Thanks for all your comments and help.

you cant the home hub would either clash with another router, or ud end up with whats call a wireless bridge setup and they are more trouble than they are worth.

if you could ditch the homehub completely then you could do a decent setup using a decent adsl router ( BT isnt broadband its ADSL )

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

If you disabled the BTHH wireless router and ran an ethernet cable to the new wireless router I think it would work fine, except you might have to play around with the DHCP so they both are not trying to assign IP addresses. I would try letting the BTHH control the DHCP and have the wireless routers DHCP turned off. This will probably be the most stable.

If you connect then with a Ethernet cable then you are not in a wireless bridge.

I would try letting the BTHH control the DHCP and have the wireless routers DHCP turned off. This will probably be the most stable.

If you connect then with a Ethernet cable then you are not in a wireless bridge.

and he would still be stuck with same issue he has now with buffer issue from the BTHH, and yes if i want to use its actual name it would be a wireless gateway but who cares hed still be stuck with bad tranfer rates.

taking you back to what i said above and only way to fix this is to ditch the homehub complately if thats even possible..

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

If all his devices were connected to the new wireless router, why would he have the same bad transfer rates?

I have a cable modem connected to my wireless router at home. His setup should operate on the same concept. All the internet data will have to go through the BTHH, but all the lan data will go through the new router and not even enter the BTHH. As far as serviio and his DLNA devices are concerned the BTHH would not even exist.

Re: Serviio stream keeps dropping out.

Below grnunn did the same thing that b3n is talking about and it worked fine.

grnunn wrote:Hi b3n,

A relative was having problems with his TV losing connection to his UPNP server. (Loss of connection after 10-15 minutes)
The TV was a Loewe and the server was Twonky BUT the problem appeared to be the HomeHub 2. I added another router to the network to handle the media traffic and the problem went away.

Posts like this made me suspect the HH2

On this website there are other people who have done this and say it works great.

NO the BTHH isnt a modem its a router and if its the one doing the DHCP then all traffic would route through it, the new router would just be acting liek a dumb switch. were with your setup the modem acts like a gateway to then internet and your router does all the work, you setup is same as mine and is what im telling the guy he needs.

no motra that guy setup would not be the same and he has created two seperate networks one for media streaming and one for the internet.
