Re: New gen Sony BDP-S780 player and 55HX923 tv

Do you restart serviio service after profile modification?

I rebooted serviio - yes.

According to the previous GetInfoProtocol from your S780 device, this device doesn't support VC1_TS_AP_L1_AC3_ISO,
so as Sony Bravia TV, your movie must be transcoded into MPEG2 video and AC3 audio in a transport stream container.

so try this "<Matches container="mpegts" vCodec="vc1" aCodec="dca"/>" on latest <video> section ( aCodec="dca" could probably been omit)

I need to think about this some more. I'm having trouble trying to understand why the player cannot handle vc-1 when a good proportion of blu-ray disks are vc-1. Same goes for the audio.

Could you check into the detailed logging file the ffmpeg command line used for transcoding this file and post here?

Once I figure out where the ffmpeg file is i'll post it.

Do you mean, not appears when you browse folder tree, or no video displayed during transcoding?

No files appear in the browser tree.

@Illico Think I found the right switch for ffmpeg? Hope this is ok?
Had to cut and paste from the terminal as ffmpeg would not let me redirect for some reason....but no big deal.

Re: New gen Sony BDP-S780 player and 55HX923 tv

In regards to your previous comments:

According to the previous GetInfoProtocol from your S780 device, this device doesn't support VC1_TS_AP_L1_AC3_ISO,

and mine

I need to think about this some more. I'm having trouble trying to understand why the player cannot handle vc-1 when a good proportion of blu-ray disks are vc-1. Same goes for the audio.

Sorry to labour this but I've thought this through some more. Running twonky on the Sony BDP player plays all my files including vc-1 with DTS MA audio. When I hit the dsiplay button on the remote it identifies the file contents e.g. vc1 and DTS MA. The files that are skipped by serviio do seem to be vc1 variants.

And with Twonky, transcoding is switched off currently. I have never used it, so it is fairly conclusive that the Sony player can handle vc1 and DTS MA.

Hope this helps.
Rob

Is there any way to stop serviio from filtering out my vc1 based m2ts files?

Can you install Intel tools, run AV Media Controller and try to find the file in the Twonky folder structure... then right click, properties, find video resource and post protocol information of that resource.

Re: New gen Sony BDP-S780 player and 55HX923 tv

OK. I'm looking into the TwonkyMedia content directory.

Locating on of the files I get:
protocolInfo:http-get:*:video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts:*

Looking at all my other vid files (including AVC based) they seem to say the same.....

now can you compare with what Serviio uses for the same file? (make sure to assign Sony BDP profile to the IP of your PC where you run the tools)

Serviio output: Using media AV controller, under display properties, the 'resource' link does not come up so I can't report it.

I do observe however in the folder the vc-1 encoded files that appear transparent to the Sony do not have file size attributes next to them. Yet the files that play ok have sizes displayed.

it looks like transcoding config is wrong then... are you still using the original Sony BDP profile?

Hmm. I have edited it recently but still have the original which came with my install. Are you talking about the profile.xml? If so what is its expected file size so I can do a quick check against my original?

Here is my checksum and file size: 1733584745 34488 ./config/profiles.xml.orig.

But there is nothing to transcode it is native for the sony player. Even with transcoding turned off the vc-1 files don't appear, so serviio must be doing some pre-processing?? and deciding not to show or stream them. Are these pre-processing decisions still being made via the Sony BDP profile?

no, no preprocessing is done. Can you enable detailed logging and post the bit when you browse for the file?

It's because Serviio actually doesn't support that combination of codecs in mpegts. I'll add it to 0.6.

Re: New gen Sony BDP-S780 player and 55HX923 tv

OK. Thanks for getting to the bottom of it!

Just a thought. Maybe it would be better to put as many different codec combos in mpegts as you can and let the renderer/player decide whether it can play it or make a hash of it. Else someone will come along with similar problems further down the line for a different codec combo?

Don't know if this would cause major issues?

Quick question related to release:
When is 0.6 due?

Will the category editor page be fixed as well.

Serviio implements format porfiles as defined by DLNA, and there are a lot ;-) So I've done the basic ones, extended to as many as required over time, but this one obviously has never been requested until now.

0.6 I hope by the end of the summer.
