disconnection issue with sony s570

Whenever I watch a large MKV file, I get a disconnection message after about an hour of viewing.

The network hasn't disconnected, if I pause then play it usually resumes no problem. I do not have any disconnects on the network and the Sony is streaming from a W7 PC over a gigabit network.

This doesn't happen if I watch smaller files such as music videos, even if I watch them constantly all day. It only happens on my movie files, generally mkv of 6GB or greater in size.

Any idea why this is happening as I am at a loss?

Can you stop serviio rename or delete the serviio.log file, enable detailed logging (see signature) and then restart serviio and watch the file again. After you get the error can you stop serviio and post the serviio.log file here.

Ok, it will take me some time to watch the file again though, as the issue doesn't happen if I just revisit the same scene on the video.

What is the IP address of your Sony s570? It looks like it it 192.168.0.8, do you have another render with the ip address 192.168.0.4? Wonder if the Sony is refreshing it's IP address half way though the movie? Maybe if the IP is currently dynamic you can set it to 192.168.0.8 static and see what happens.

The ip of the Sony is 192.168.0.8, the other xxx.xxx.x.4 ip is my Yamaha AV receiver.

The issue pre-dates the addition of the receiver to the network and the Sony ip address is not dynamic.

Could it be something to do with the libraries refreshing every so often?

Is the movie being transcoded? Maybe the drive you are using for transcoding is getting full? or is Fat32 or Fat16 formatted, Max file size 4 Gig.

Yeah the movie is being transcoded, although the HDD are NTFS and the location is the default Windows/Temp/ folder which doesn't have any restrictions afaik.

I did think about the size being the issue due to the Sony only supporting fat32 4gb file sizes, but then the file simply wouldn't play at all.

If you run that huge command from a dos window and save the exported file, you could try and add that file to your video folder and see if it will play without stopping, when it is not being transcoded.

is the socketBuffer somehow not correct. I have it set to 10mb, however this has also happened when I had it set to 2Mb. the default was not large enough and I was getting significant stuttering so I enlarged the socketBuffer.

I am not sure what is going on. I linked this with another tread in the beta discussion group where a user was having trouble playing any files over 8GB.

I was wondering if the transcoded file was going above the 8Gb limit.

Hopefully Zip will have a chance to look at this thread and has an idea.

Ok, thanks for the help. I am at a loss myself. I have moved the transcoding folder out of the windows TEMP and although I don't think it will make a scrap of difference, who knows.

Maybe I should decrease the size of the SocketBuffer.

the socket error only happens when the client (TV) closes the connection, nothing to do with the buffer.

The TV closes the connection would make sense, becuase if you pause the movie the TV will let you to finish watching the movie. Maybe there is a setting on the TV to make it receive a stream longer?

I don't see how the TV has any input to the stream as it has no connection to my network.
