Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

I could acess Serviio content on my home server from an LG TV OK. Then I had an update for my home WiFi system, Deco. I applied the update (27 August 2024)and now Serviio seems unable to see my LG TV. I have:
1. reinstalled Serviio
2. reinstalled Norton
3. Rebooted my network adapter
4. Rebooted my router
5. Rebooted ny PC (several times)
None of these has made any difference.
The Deco Firmware version is 1.7.8 Build 20240719 Rel. 70981
Any thoughts on the problem would be welcome.

Re: Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

Check your WiFi settings to see if a security setting was turned on with the update. There's usually a setting that when enabled blocks WiFi connected devices from seeing other devices on the network. This is usually done on public WiFi access points, such as hotels, dorms and other public places. It also might have switched your WiFi into "guest" mode that would enable the same security setting.

Re: Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

My LG TV can see another networked device, a Sonos controller. As far as I can see there is no security setting which would prevent access to just Serviio. Where woud I find the security setting you refer to? I have looked in windows settings and Norton settings as well as Deco settings.

The settings I am referring to would be in the WiFi settings on the access point(s). But if your TV is connected to the WiFi and seeing other devices on your network, then there's probably no issue with that security setting.

Is there a chance that your WiFi update has changed your IP addressing range on your network? Is your Serviio machine using a static IP, that perhaps no longer matches what your network is using? Just making some guesses here about what might be impacting the ability of one device to see another.

Re: Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

Hi

Thanks for helping.

My WiFi settings for my PC (which is the media server PC running Serviio) are: 'Automatic (DHCP)'. The actual IP addresses are in the same range that they have always been in (192.168.68.nnn). Looking at the WiFi system (Deco mesh) it identifies a client 'LG Innotek' on IP address 192.168.68.111, which I assume is the LG TV but Serviio cannot see that client. The WiFi system also shows my WiFi attached printer and my mobile phone.

What does seem odd is that Serviio is trying to connect to a device on IP address 192.168.2.90. When I look in Network settings on my PC this identiies that address as the IPv4 address of (I assume) my PC. The WiFi system is showing 11 clients which all have IP addresses in the range 192.168.68.nnn, where nnn is a range of 3 digit numbers. One of these devices is my PC which has an IP address of 192.168.68.110, so I am confused as to what the IPv4 address actually refers to. The WiFi system is not listing any devices with an IP address in the 192.168.2.nn range.

According to the Network settings on my PC the IPv4 address for DNS servers is 192.168.2.1 (unencrypted), I am not sure of the significance of this.

Do you think this problem may be a result of the apparent confusion in IP addresses for my PC (Serviio server).

Sorry, just spotted that Servio was showing a 'bound IP' address of '192.168.2.90 (Realtek PCIe GbE Famiy Controller)'. I have changed this to 'Automatically detected' but Serviio is still not seeing my LG TV.

I have another Bound IP address option in Serviio of: 10.252.3.225 (Norton VPN Wireguard Adapter). I am not sure what the significance of this is.

Re: Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

Ah, you have a VPN running on the Serviio computer. That has a strong possibility of being the problem. I believe most VPN clients have settings to have certain applications not use the VPN, but I have zero experience using one so can't provide any guidance in that area.

The reason Serviio was bound to a different IP address range is a pretty good indicator that when you updated your network it changed the address range used. The 192.168.2.x was your old range and 192.168.68.x is the new one. Both are within the Class C private address range, so that's good. Can you confirm that your computer is on the same 192.168.68.x range? If it's Windows, open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG and press enter. That will show you the IPv4 address the computer is using. And make sure the SUBNET MASK is 255.255.255.0.

OK, read it again and you did confirm the computer is on the same IP range, but still double-check the netmask. Are there any other devices on your network that can see Serviio? Or devices that should see it but don't? Since your phone is shown on the network, you could install VLC, a great video player with a terrible user interface. But it can see uPNP media servers like Serviio and we can use that to confirm if Serviio is connecting to your network correctly. I just looked at VLC on my iPhone, and the menus across the bottom offer a Network view. Touch that and it will list every server available on your network. Make sure you give it permission to scan your network when you first start the app.

Re: Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

I have turned off the VPN (in Norton), Serviio still cannot see my PC.

I have run IPCONFIG and have attached the result.

I have VLC on my phone which is android. I cannot see any option in the menu bar at the bottom of the phone for a network view, presumably that is an iPhone option. I have tried to access the media files on my PC through VLC and have been unable to do so. VLC asks me to select media folders on my PC but when I do so it says 'No media files found'. The media files are on a removable hard disc attached to my PC. All the files on them have been properly processed by Serviio and are listed on Serviio.

I have also attached a screenshot of Serviio which can see 192.168.2.90.

According to my WiFi app the TV is on 192.168.68.111.

The first line of the above post should read:

Re: Serviio not seeing LG TV after update of Deco WiFi

OK, IP settings all look fine. Strange that VLC would have a different UI on an Android device. I have it installed on my Nvidia Shield (which runs Android TV) and Network locations are listed there (certainly a different UI from a phone though). Across the bottom of VLC on my phone is Video, Audio, Playlist, Network, and Settings. Perhaps they moved those items somewhere else in the UI.

Accessing the media files from VLC would assume those files are located on an available network share. VLC is showing me computers that have network shares available, but I cannot access them without entering the necessary credentials. But this is all under that Network menu option, and that's where both of my Serviio PCs are shown ( I have two servers, one I use for testing purposes).

But the main reason I suggested VLC was to simply determine if Serviio is visible from any other device on your network. The fact you don't have Network available on your UI might indicate an issue with browsing on your network, which would not be under Serviio's control. Again, it would seem there's something in your new network that appears to be blocking devices from seeing each other. That's really difficult to troubleshoot remotely, especially when I have no familiarity with the Deco WiFi system.
