PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

Hi,

I've spent a few hours on this and am stuck... hope you can help.

I have a network with the following machines:

1) Windows 7 with serviio ('PC 1')
2) Another windows box running WMP ('PC 2')
3) A netgear readyNAS duo running readyDLNA
4) A PS3

They're all connected to the same router on a wired network.

The PS3 can see the readyNAS server fine. However, I can't get it to see the serviio server on PC1

When I run devicespy on PC1, it doesn't see the PS3. It does however see PC1, PC2, and the readyNAS.

If I check the status tab in serviio on PC1, then it doesn't seem to detect the PS3.

Yet the PS3 is able to connect to the other DLNA server (readyNAS).

I'm at a loss to explain the issue.

I installed serviio using the windows installer today, and I presume that the firewall is ok, otherwise devicespy wouldn't detect the DLNA settings of PC2 or the readyNAS server.

It can't be the router, because otherwise the PS3 wouldn't see the readyNAS DLNA server either.

Any ideas for what I could do to drill down to the cause here?

Any help gratefully received!

Cheers
Andy

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

Here's the first bit of it. The rest was all 'Added File' lines which isn't really relevant.

I couldn't see anything useful there. BTW, 192.168.0.20 is the ip address of the PC running serviio, and is connected to the same network as all the other devices. I tried binding it manually in case it was binding to the wrong network card.

Cheers
Andy

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

I guess it's got to be something like that.

I'm running the standard windows 7 firewall, and the inbound and outbound rules for serviio are wide open.

I'll list the other things I tried before using Serviio in case they're the reason:

WMP: Worked, but was slow (far slower than the readyNAS DLNA server, which only runs on a lowly Netgear DUO)

Fuppes: I couldn't seem to get that going, and has an odd install. I wonder if somehow this is affecting it?

---

Having said that, if the problem was a firewall, it serviio wouldn't be able to see the other PC. That correctly appears with a green light in the setup tab, and device spy has no problem seeing it too (along with all the readynas DUO). If I manually add the PS3, it has an amber light.

One last thing... On the PS3, I enabled Qriocity. Could that have anything to do with it? I've since disabled that, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks for the help so far.

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

It can see the other PC because the other PC doesn't have firewall on the ports the other app (WMP?) is using. You can try running AV Media Controller or Device Spy on the other PC to see if it displays Serviio on your main box (tools are part of Intel tools, link in my signature)

Thanks for the suggestion - will have to try it later (I'll let you know how it went)

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

Any resolution on this issue? I'm in a similar situation.

I installed Serviio, several months ago, and it never actually worked and never could I see it on my ps3. I didn't investigate further, but didn't uninstall either - hoping that a future update might solve the problem. (I'm using USB sticks for my media from PC to PS3 currently).

On my laptop I've W7 Ultimate x64 running with Comodo firewall and Avira antivirus.

Serviio has been added to the accepted programs for the firewall.

The router is wired to the laptop and wireless to the ps3.

Previously the ps3 was able to see TVersity (which I just got sick of), and Windows Media Player on the laptop, so I don't think its related to the network/router.

Upon inspection of the Serviio console now... I can see that the PS3 (192.168.0.6), is not among the listed IP addresses that Serviio can see.

PS: I've manually added the PS3 at 192.168.0.6 to the list in the Serviio console and still no joy.

PS-2: Is it possible that the Windows Media Player that's running concurrently, could be interfering with the Serviio port/connection/etc?

Thanks for any help!

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

It will most likely be the firewall. Try turning both those programs off to see if that's the case. Also check the log to see if Serbiio binds to the right IP address, if not put the PC's IP address into the Bound IP address field in the console.

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

Ok, bound the ip to 192.168.0.4 (it was previously incorrectly bound to 192.168.0.5 from when I was using the laptop's wireless card).

I've quit out of Comodo Firewall, and quit as much as I can (without too much hassle) Avira (the program is still running but not in Active Mode).

Restarted the PS3, researched. And no joy!

I've a second PC, a desktop, on the same network that's running Window's XP. I'm going to install Serviio on that and see if I get any luck. (although where I really need it installed is on the laptop).

Re: PS3 sees my ReadyNAS but not Serviio

You can show your open ports by running the command on this page.

You run the following command from the command line and it will show the computers open ports.

  Code:
netstat -an |find /i "listening"

You can download a program called Angry IP Scanner here that will scan the computers on your network and you can set it up to look for open ports. You can use this on your second computer to verify that the required ports are in fact open and not being blocked. You will have to enable port scanning in the options of the program.
