Please help.

Samsung tv and old computer used to work perfectly

new computer (way more powerful) same tv no end of problems.

- takes ages to load (and if it does start it will either reset my tv or go back to the folder after a little while

This isn't every film but a lot of them. HD seems to be the issue i think? or maybe it's the way they are converted?

- sometimes it says wrong audio code so there's no sound but if I click it again it works??

Samsung UE40D5520RKXXU

I have a 100mb broadband connection. so it can't be a connection problem unless it's something else?
My computer is 16gb ram, 2gb graphics card, Intel Core 15-4690k cpu 3.5-GHz

What am i missing? or what do i need to do to fix this?

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Re: Please help.

What is taking long to load, the TV loading the file list or the actual video for playback?

What profile are you using? The audio codec message sounds like it might be wrong.

What version of Serviio?

How does the TV connect to Serviio, Wi-Fi or Ethernet? When you say broadband, that usually refers to your Internet connection.

What OS on your computer, Windows or Linux, and what version?

Your computer hardware specs are great. Assuming no networking issues (which I personally think may be part or all if it), the next place to look is the files themselves. MediaInfo for a file that won't play would help, as would a copy of your log in debug mode.

Thank you for responding.

I presume it's the video file for playback. I get a message saying 'loading' on the tv.

I just tried to watch a 1080p version of critters it keeps saying loading then kinda froze and reboots to the smart tv screen.

I don't quite know what you mean by profile?
servvio version 1.5.2
Windows 7 64 ultimate
Connected via Ethernet cable 100mb connection

The debug is quite big i can post it if you wish or maybe i could post part of it? or you could tell me what i'm looking for?

i haven't used mediainfo before but this is what it says for critters

Re: Please help.

Profiles are assigned to each playback device on the Status tab of the Serviio console. For most devices, Serviio can detect the correct band and model and assign the correct profile. For your TV it's likely correct, but check it to be sure. It should be the Samsung C/D profile.

Debug logs do get large, and there's a file size limit for attachments. You should be able to compress (zip) the file and upload the entire thing. The issue with only posting a part of the log is that it's tough to select the correct portion of you don't know what you're looking for.

I understand what you mean now. the profile doesn't make much sense so if you could explain it to me or point out what is wrong.

I have uploaded a screen shot. There appears to be a number of IP connections but they have lines through them?

I have also uploaded the debug list

Thanks for your help

Re: Please help.

OK, the profile selected should be the correct one. I went through the log and could not find any attempt to play the file you listed above. Also, the log shows a number of starting and stopping Serviio. Only really need to see a single session.

The file you posted above has a video codec I don't recognize. I don't know if mp42 is causing the issue, but it's possible. I found this info on another forum:

I'm not that fimiliar with mp42, but from my understanding, it was an older non-standardized version of MPEG-4 before it became standardized.

So, these files may require recoding for successful playback.

Now, let's get a log with some useful information. Stop the Serviio service. Make sure you've enabled debug logging. Delete the log file, then start Serviio. We now have a single session log. Try playing a video that has problems. Once you either get playback to start, or one of the other problems, stop the Serviio service and post that log. Tell us the name of the file you were trying to play. Change your logging back to normal and restart Serviio. If you don't switch the logging back to normal, you'll end up with huge log files.

ok I had a issues with your instructions. I did everything you said but it wouldn't allow me to delete the log when I clicked 'stop serviio service' I had to exit serviio before it would allow me to do that. Problem is it wouldn't allow me to start it again without rebooting.

So i tried exit serviio console but i don't think that worked. The log as you can see hasn't got any information about the films.

I tried 2 films, Spectre which kept loading then flashed the audio codec error for a second before moving onto the sample which ironically loaded ok
Then I tried critters which did the same as always just loaded for ages and reset my tv

nothing has shown up in the log? i presume it's serviio.log? because there is 3 other logs labelled serviio 1 2 and 5

I have uploaded it anyway but as you can see it's not right.

I also copy and pasted this from the log once i rebooted rather than upload the whole thing.

Re: Please help.

By default Serviio will create a new log file when the main log reaches 1/2 meg. That's why you are seeing the others. And yes, I forgot one piece of info. The Serviio console cannot be running to delete the log file. Sorry about that.

So, let's try again. Close the console and stop the Serviio service. Then delete all the log files. Restart Serviio, then try to play the two files. After the 2nd one, stop the service again. Take all log files and zip them into a single compressed file. You can do that by selecting all the files, then right clicking and select "Send To... Compressed Folder". This should make the log file small enough to attach here.

Also, please provide the Media info for Spectre as well. You already provided Critters already. My guess is that both of these files require transcoding for your TV, but the profile doesn't have the code needed to capture these particular files.

I followed your instruction and tried starting both films a couple of times but the log doesn't seem to record it? quite frustrating. I don't know where I'm going wrong :/

Here's the media info for spectre Also please note i just put the film onto a memory stick and it played fine without any delay or glitches. So it's not my tv

Re: Please help.

The log should have hundreds if not thousands of lines.

Just to confirm you have made the correct settings in the log config file. The file is in the C:\Program Files\Serviio\config folder, and the file name is log4j.xml. The only line that needs changing is line 25. The complete section (lines 24-25-26) is this:
  Code:
<category name="org.serviio">
      <priority value="INFO"/>
</category>

And you changed "INFO" to "DEBUG". Nothing else in the log config file should be changed. Can you confirm that's the change you made?

Re: Please help.

I see you've done nothing wrong. Let's try again and see if we can get a proper debug log. Like I said, after 5 minutes or so the log is going to be quite large.

Ok i deleted all the logs then rebooted. I tested quite a few films out but i also continuously tried the problem films like critters and spectre . Critters wouldn't work at all i must have clicked it about 10 times if not more.
Spectre i pretty much did the same but sometimes it would come on fine if I clicked it enough?? most of the time it would just show the loading screen or codec error and not work.

I'm hoping that the logs can shed some light on this.

Zip, I haven't had the time to examine his log. Could you take a quick peek and see if you spot something? I'll try to get to it this weekend as well.

Re: Please help.

Files like these don't transcode on the Samsung. So it's something about the way they are encoded the TV doesn't like.

The fact they play from USB is irrelevant, the TV uses different code to play videos through DLNA.

Maybe the TV got a firmware update that broke something? More likely it's just the way the file is encoded though.

Re: Please help.

His TV shouldn't have the Tizen OS. The previous OS would play transcoded files OK. My UN24H4500 doesn't have Tizen, and will play everything I have, some requiring transcoding. The TV should be OK with the AVC video, although I'm not sure about AAC audio. Of course, perhaps that model doesn't play AVC at the level. Still, since it shouldn't be the Tizen I would think it would work.

And yeah, Samsung has broken stuff before with updates...
