Am I doing something wrong with subtitles?

I use MakeMKV to rip all my DVDs and Blu-rays using their default profile. When I run ffmpeg -i, it says this:

  Code:
    Stream #0:0(eng): Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 720x480 [SAR 32:27 DAR 16:9], SAR 186:157 DAR 279:157, 29.
97 fps, 29.97 tbr, 1k tbn, 59.94 tbc
    Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s (default)
    Metadata:
      title           : 3/2+1
    Stream #0:2(eng): Subtitle: dvd_subtitle (default)
    Stream #0:3(eng): Subtitle: dvd_subtitle
    Stream #0:4(eng): Subtitle: dvd_subtitle

I can't see subtitles on either my Panasonic ST30 Plasma or my Sony BDP-N200 boxes. I'm not sure the ST30 supports subtitles over DLNA, but the Sony has a menu option (which tells me the operation is not permitted on this file). I have all subtitle options enabled in the Serviio console.

I enabled detailed logging and briefly played two movies, Men In Black II (the above ffmpeg info) and The Godfather (embedded subtitles as above, but also have an SRT file). Any opinions welcome! :)

Serviio doesn't support bitmap-based subtitles yet.

Thanks Zip.

After I posted this I used MKVMerge to add the SRT file to the video, and ffmpeg -i now shows subrip as the type. Still doesn't play. The external SRT file isn't picked up either. The log I attached should show The Godfather trying to use the external file.

what is the file name of the srt file (godfather)? What settings do you have enabled for subs in the console?

All settings are enabled, including "Always" for burned in.

Video file name is "The Godfather (1972).mkv". I've tried the SRT file with and without the year ("The Godfather.srt" & "The Godfather (1972).srt"). Spacing and case are identical. OS is Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 with all service packs.

OK, now today subtitles using the SRT files are working on my Panasonic. I'll try the Sony streamers when I go upstairs to bed. Weird...
