Am I doing something wrong with subtitles?

I use MakeMKV to rip all my DVDs and Blu-rays using their default profile. When I run ffmpeg -i, it says this:
I can't see subtitles on either my Panasonic ST30 Plasma or my Sony BDP-N200 boxes. I'm not sure the ST30 supports subtitles over DLNA, but the Sony has a menu option (which tells me the operation is not permitted on this file). I have all subtitle options enabled in the Serviio console.
I enabled detailed logging and briefly played two movies, Men In Black II (the above ffmpeg info) and The Godfather (embedded subtitles as above, but also have an SRT file). Any opinions welcome!
