An amateurs perpective of Serviio

I know close to nothing about streaming and I download content from the internet to my HDD to either copy to a stick or to play on my computer.
I decided to divert my money from crappy cable to more internet bandwidth and downloaded more of what interested me instead of watching insulting commercials and terrible content that television has to offer. However... watching on a computer screen when I have a 65” plasma in the next room seemed a bit stupid.
I fumbled about with Windows Media player and copying files to my USB stick to play on the big screen, it's a cool concept but that’s still time consuming and cumbersome. I read about Serviio and after some minor reading and setting up, I was able to send a wireless signal directly to my DVD player and was watching content stored on my HDD on the big screen within an hour.
No matter how you cut it, that is a KickAss alternative to the commercials your forced to watch with television.
Anyway, Serviio is an awesome alternative to watching television and my library now consists of over 3000 videos of interest. Whether it's my own personal home movies, photos, songs or any downloaded content, this is the way I like to use my electronics.
I’m very pleased with the result of what Serviio has allowed me to do.
I just wish I could learn more about the other various uses of the application. There should be a Serviio’s for Dummies guide.
This actually makes me think about the fact that the computer of the future is moving to a cloud environment. It won't be long before your computers boot directly into the cloud and have internet connections build right into the OS. Stand alone systems will be a thing of the past. No more storing on your own personal HDD, everything will be stored in the cloud including applications. Your computers will just be the interface tool. That's scary considering that a lot of personal information will be out there and privacy will be a thing of the past.
