I know both are important, but when it comes to HD coming down to a Sony N200 media player, I get freezing (not all the time)...standard def is fine..running Serviio on a netbook (yes, I can hear the groans right now) ... but it works (Hulu is neve a plm)
Looking for the minimum platform for satisfactory performance with HD streams..right now have 3 meg DSL and wireless network

1. wireless wont work, not good enough for HD,well unless your runnig one of the new N+ 900mb/s routers
2. Decent router,
3. laptop should be fine as long as its a decent spec.

I use an old IPM Pentium Pro PC, NVidia GeForce GT 430 graphics card, WindowsXP and a D-LInk N router. I have a wireless connection to my Samsung BluRay player. All my 720 HD videos work fine. I have tried a 1920x1080 mp4 video and that also works fine. Maybe the graphics card helps.

im one of them sad bastard that builds servers in a datacentre so have to know exactly what each bit does and doesnt do

and what required to be ungraded to run certain software.
plus serviio runs on headless NAS enviroments and they dont even have a graphics card installed.

It would be cool, if there was a GPU that serviio could use it. I know it is a long shot and might have to be GPU specific code. GPU's sometimes are more powerful than the actual CPU depending on what they are doing.

Sorry to shoehorn into this discussion, but I am running Serviio on a HP MediaSmart Server ex470 streaming to multiple devices (kindle fire, sony smp-n100, wdtv live streaming smp, and even HP touchpad). When i play files from my server everything works fine, but i have issues with trying any of the live streaming, none of the HD channels work and even the sd channels freeze or time out alot (i have switched to running both the sony device and wdtv to a lan wire and not wireless and does not fix issue). I am looking to build either a new WHS box or a freenas box and was wondering what is a good CPU and Memory specs i should put into new server.

start a new topic ( in the support section ) rather than using an unrelated one and someone will be able to assist you.
