New User...

Great app, shows lots of promise....

I have an Ubuntu 'media server', with many GB's of various file types. I've been using MiniDLNA to stream to a WDTV attached to my TV.

Recently got a Sony BluRay player, and quite disappointed with the DLNA file type support they are offering. Ran across Seviio this morning and thought I'd give it a whirl... Many thanks to the folks who gave the step by step on installation, only real hurdle was the requirement for Sun's Java 6, vs. OpenJava...

Compared to MiniDLNA - it seems to be taking its time indexing the files I have, I'm wondering if there's an opportunity to speed that side of things along, I never really got the idea of all the various 'metadata' tags as being usefull, by genre, director, etc..

Only real item missing, I'm also a big iPhone\Ipod Touch user around the house, it'd be nice to have a trans-coding profile for those devices.

Re: New User...

Version 0.6 is in beta it has been optimized to create the database faster. There is a FAQ and a section of the forums here on how to create a transcoding profile. Find some files that will not play on the iPhone and ipod touch and post the information needed (see signature on video not playing) post all this information in the transcoding section and members will help your get your transcoding profile working. Once it has been tested by a few members, zip will add it to the next version of Serviio.
