Playing imbedded mkv subtitles issue

I just installed serviio 1.3 over 1.2.1. I have thoroughly enjoyed using serviio as my media server. One issue I have been having ever since I have started looking for media servers is how to play subtitles when streaming from my windows PC to my samsung BD-D5100 blu-ray player and xbox 360. When I saw that 1.2 added subtitle support, I was overjoyed until I discovered that it did not work. When I tried to play a video with subtitles on either device (blu-ray or 360) with the checkbox "Enable Extraction of subtitles embedded in video file" checked, the videos would refuse to play at all and would say unsupported file format. However, when I tried to play the files without having that box checked, the videos would play just fine but without any subtitles. I am having the exact same issue with 1.3. I have defined preferred language codes as "eng, und" since my mkv videos use those particular codes for english subtitle tracks (which one depends on the video). I really need to be able to show the subtitles in my mkv videos since it is japanese audio and I want to know what is said via subtitles. I have even used mkvmerge to set the subtitle tracks to default and forced but still cannot get the subtitles to display on either my blu-ray player or my 360.

Another issue I had with 1.2.1 is that occasionally I would be unable to see the media server on my devices until I went to my computer and refreshed the renderer profile list. I would have to use the drop down menu to reselect "automatically detect bound IP address" when it was already selected, then hit save and then refresh the list just to get the media server to show up on my playback devices.

The final issue I have been having is that the time of the video occasionally does not display correctly when streaming to my blu-ray player. Some mkv files show the video to have a length of 0:00:00 while others will show the correct length of the video which allows me to move around the video (fast forward/rewind). Occasionally the length of the video will constantly change 2:xx:xx -> 3:xx:xx -> etc. The total time will skip around so I cannot tell how long the video is when playing but I cannot tell how much time has passed since the played time stays at 0:00:00.

All my media devices are directly wired to my network. No wifi is used to stream.

Any thoughts that can help?

Re: Playing imbedded mkv subtitles issue

For subtitles, read this : http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=33

WARNING: Embedded subtitles might not work for some (large) files, due to the time needed to extract them. It's even more true if the file is stored on a remote drive.

Could you enable detailed logging and check the serviio.log file ?

Re: Playing imbedded mkv subtitles issue

I have read that article but unfortunately, it does not help me with my issues. That article is not clear enough for me to figure out my problem. My mkv files range from 80 MB to 300 MB. However, ALL of them refuse to play when the that checkbox is checked. My computer should be powerful enough to handle the transcoding. I have a 6-core 3.3 GHz processor with 8 GB RAM with multiple terabyte hard drives. I have attached a screen shot of my current subtitle settings.

Did you store your mkv file in a local drive or a remote drive ?
