New Install - "There are no items to display"

This worked fine on my last computer (32 bit Windows XP)
but now, on Windows 7 64 bit, it sees serviio, and the folders but nothing shows in the folders.
Its the same exact files but now they don't show.

Is Windows 7 64bit not supported with this?

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

correction, pictures DO show but only if i go in through "images" if I go in through "Videos" pictures do not show.
Audio files do show too , but not videos , which are AVIs.
The video directory was added last. I think i had this problem on XP , that is, what ever gets added last does not get scanned. Like the tree is not big enough to hold everything? Is there a limitation in this fashion?

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

Ok, this is confirmed.
I just removed the first 3 folder paths which were photos and audio files and now the remaining 2 paths, movies, does work!
What is going on with this? Limited number of folder paths supported?

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

Serviio will work fine with Windows 7 x64. Also, what device are you using?

There is no limit to the number of folders files as far as I am aware, some people have massive libraries, but adding a large amount of content at once can take a long time.

Yes the videos view only shows videos, and the images only images....

Looking at your posts, you didn't wait very long. Adding a large folder can take a while. To check the progress of adding a folder, you can go to the library tab -> shared folders and then click force update. Then click on show status, the two lights will go green, once they have finished searching they will go red. Now check everything is there.

If your content still isn't there once this has finished then there might be a problem. In that case, please turn on detailed logging (see my signature), stop the serviio service, then delete the existing log files in C:\Program Files\Serviio\log, then start the serviio service, open up the console remove 1 of the problem folders, click save, then add it back again, then press force refresh and check the status, once it goes from green to red, post the log file. If the log is too big (>500KB) then add it to a zip folder.

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

ok thanks, i guess the show status is new and somehow i had missed that.

Just a thought , as a developer, how about eliminating the show status button all together and putting the status immediately next to it.

Or how about a "Please wait" message , or "don't turn off computer until finished" message?

Or how about disabling the status button until "force refresh" is clicked to as to draw better attention to it? Just a thought.

Of course the ultimate would be a progress bar. Perhaps scan the folders first with "findfile" ("please wait while Serviio looks for files to add to Library")then calculate a finish time and display it ("Servio is now adding files to the Library").
Then after completion show results of scan/add. if any where left out pop up a link to a file showing the omissions.

so I ran Force Refresh again for pictures and music and it seemed to stop on one picture for a long time.
So i started it again. It now shows checking for new files green and checking for updates red.

Looking at my folders, it appears to have skipped pictures 2011 again, or stopped before it got to it.
Music files are not added and they come after the pictures.

In summation , what ever is last, does not get added even after an ordinate amount of time.

In the log file: AlyssaCanoe.JPG was part of "pictures 2010" and it did not finish that folder and go on to 2011.

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

Ok, there have been some threads such as viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4914&p=34276&hilit=corrupt+jpg#p34276 where the user has a problem. For now, try removing the offending photos/fix them. I'm not familur with the problem though, so someone else will need to help out.

As for the progress bar, by the time you have listed all the files, you could have already checked and added them to the database. Show status doesn't rely on force refresh as the library can automatically update itself at a set interval. As for showing it directly, I belive the reason is that there isn't enough space/its too crowded.

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

i have removed a bunch of photos.

Still : Could not read block (block start: 812, block length: 4761, data length: 5569).

if I keep doing this I won't have anything worth showing and it will be pointless to try to use the program.

Again , this always happens to the last folders added. If i ad the photos first they are added fine.

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

you can try increasing max memory for the program (to something like 512m) by changing the Xmx value in ServiioService.exe.vmptions file and restart the service/PC.

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

Ok I finally figured out what was causing the library updating to cut off.
It was one jpeg file i had scanned at 1200 dpi (4.5 mb).
It seems that this extra large file knocked off the indexing (in order as files are sorted alphabetically during this i found out).

Now it indexes everything properly after removing that file.

Maybe a disclaimer is in order saying that large image files will cause library to not fully index?

Re: New Install - "There are no items to display"

Just being a large file might not be the only problem. There are some camera's out there that do not setup the information for the photo correctly and serviio will sometimes hang on them.

Well this was scanning software so its probably the same thing right?
Maybe put a disclaimer saying scanned pics may not be scanned. Or make it part of you FAQ, it might save people weeks of scanning the forums for an answer that isn't there.

We will put something in the wiki about what to look for if scanning stops.

Yes it is the same thing. Can you post the information on the file so we can try and prevent this from happening.
