Nova player with Serviio

I put Serviio on my PC, and I send toward a Chromecast, on my Samsung TV.
On the Chromecast, I use VLC to watch from Serviio, but I dislike so much the interface and it has it's share of annoyance.
I would prefer to use Nova Player, the problem is this:
Nova Player see Servio server and list the basis folder (without videos). As soon as there is is video/image content, I get a generic error: An error occurred.
And Nova is unable to list the files. I tried reinstalling Nova, Scrapped the local content.

Is Servio compatible with Nova PLayer ? Is there something I am missing in terms of options ?
I am a bit loss and not sure if the issue is Serviio or Nova.

Re: Nova player with Serviio

I've tried the Nova player on my Shield as well, and it never worked. There's nothing within Serviio that could cause it. If it streams to one player app, such as VLC, then it should work with any DLNA capable player app. Personally, I use Kodi. It's a bit of effort to get it all configured (DLNA support is disabled by default so must be turned on within the "Expert" settings). I can't speak to the Chromecast but on my Shield I can play anything without transcoding, including viewing any captions.

I have to agree about VLC: it's a terrific player with a terrible user interface. And it's been that way for years, so I'm assuming they aren't all that concerned about it.

Re: Nova player with Serviio

Rather sad, I like Nova. I tried Kodi but I don't get how to configure it in Android. I might try again.

That said, I just find out that my Samsung Tv connect very well to Serviio. Before it didn't play avi and 265 codec with another media server HMS.
But they surely did an update, because I can play them all with the internal player. The interface is a bit dull, but functional. I will try that too, now that it works well.

Thanks for the answer. By the way, love Serviio. I tried all the others, it's the one that gives me less problems.

The first thing you have to do is to enable DLNA. By default the settings menus are in Basic mode, but you can reach the DLNA setting in that mode. Open the Settings/Services menu, go to UPnP/DLNA and activate DLNA support. Then go to File Manager and select Add Source. In the box that opens, click Browse and then click UPnP devices. Serviio should appear on the list, so click on Serviio, then click on OK in the next box. That takes you back to the Add File Source window, and you can see it has added your Serviio server and entered a name (which you can edit). Now you can see Serviio listed under media sources when you select Videos on the home page. I've configured Kodi to start up in the Videos folder, so Serviio is always there with one click.

There's more settings you can make for lossless audio, parsing and displaying text based captions, and so on. But the above will get you up and running. Just one thing to remember. Kodi does NOT stop video playback if you hit the back button, but continues in the background. To stop it you must open the info bar at the bottom and hit the stop button. There's also an add-on called Keymap Editor that allows you to program the video to stop playback if the back button is pressed, but that's a bit complicated to explain here.

Re: Nova player with Serviio

I did all this, thanks. I saw that they remove a feature that can play all the videos in a folder.
I have added Upnext addon, but I could probably put the TV shows in TV shows (suppose the option is there).
I like the interface of Kodi. I think I am gonna stick with that, because the Samsung UI is very limited in terms of listing.

I agree, the Samsung UI is a hot pile as well.
