Setting-up Serviio on Mac to support WiiM audio streamers

Hi, my apologies if this topic has been aired before, but as a newbie to both music streaming and Serviio I'm struggling a bit.

I have two WiiM Pro devices setup which work as expected, and I want the devices to be able to stream the audio files stored on my Mac, mainly ripped CDs in FLAC format. I've gone through the Serviio setup process, bound the server to the correct network (my Mac has two NICs) and added the relevant music libraries. I've also added local users, although this shouldn't really be necessary, as my wife and I share the same Mac.

In the Serviio console I can see the two WiiM devices listed, but if I use the WiiM app on my iPad I can't see the Serviio server on my Mac. I've tried stopping and starting the server service, in case my changing the bound networks had caused a problem, but that has made no difference.

I did wonder if I needed to craft some sort of renderer file for the WiiMs but TBH, that's way beyond my level of skill and knowledge.

The other thing that I can't check is to see what music Serviio has actually indexed. When I added my music library a couple of cover images popped up, with a message advising that the files had been added to the library, but since then, nada.

OSX Ventura doesn't allow the specific opening of TCP ports (at least, that I can find), only allowing apps or services to be added. Do I need to add the Serviio server service to the Mac's firewall list? If so, what do I add please?

Right now, I'm stumped. I'd like to buy a Pro Licence in order to get all of the features, but clearly there's no point if I can't get things working. Any help/suggestions would therefore be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Clem

Re: Setting-up Serviio on Mac to support WiiM audio streamer

I am not familiar with the WiiM Pro, so I did a quick search. I do see it supports DLNA servers, and is a music only streamer. So compatibility should be fine.

Users in Serviio are not necessary unless you are using the MediaBrowser function (it requires a user login) unless you want to restrict access to some content
Since you do have users, did you assign the users permission to access the Serviio shared library locations AND assigned a user to the device in the Serviio console?
If you did one of the above, you have to do both. Without permissions granted to a user assigned to a device the device cannot see the media. However, it should see Serviio

If you are still within the 15 day Pro trial period, you can use MediaBrowser to see your media in Serviio and ensure it is configured correctly. Again I'm not familiar with WiiM Pro, so it's possible they can't see the server if they don't detect any playable media. No, you should not need a profile specific to your devices as long as they support your media files as presented, meaning they support the containers and audio codecs used for the media.

Re: Setting-up Serviio on Mac to support WiiM audio streamer

I hate computers! This morning, I booted my Mac from cold, as I normally do, and now both WiiM devices see the Mac! All that I can think of was that the service hadn't been started after the install.

On oddly though: in the Home Music Share, the WiiM device lists the Serviio share from the Mac twice.

I've yet to try and actually play some music, that's next on my list, but I want to sort out the duplicate entries first.

Thanks for your help.

The dual entries might be because when you booted your Mac it picked up a different IP address than it had the last time the WiiM devices saw the Mac. Sony devices are bad about that, as they retain the "memory" of the previously viewed server, even though in reality it was the same device. I have my Serviio PCs always running a static IP address, partially for that reason.

Re: Setting-up Serviio on Mac to support WiiM audio streamer

Interesting. I use DHCP although I might be able to set static addresses. I need to check my router config. When I checked, I could browse the music collection using either entry in the WiiM Home app.

I’ve deleted the user entries and I’ll re-check things tomorrow when I have more time. Users on AVF have suggested using LMS as it’s directly supported my WiiM, which I might look at, but if Serviio works I well leave well alone!

Onwards and upwards!

Cheers.
