Serviio

For anyone that's interested, the following is a link to another thread I started wherein I didn't fully understand what was happening yet. It won't shed much light on the real problem but it might help others if they're seeing similar weird "stuff" going on with not seeing certain files in Media Browser (regardless of platform, browser or device).

So, in the above thread I thought I was only seeing an issue with viewing audio files in Firefox, however I've since come to understand the issue had nothing to do with the interface, but was caused by my console setup.

I don't use metadata tags for video files since most files are almost always badly tagged and servers just make a mess of it. So I simply set up folders as categories and set Serviio to display the folders.

With MUSIC however, I absolutely use ID3 tags and even use software to ensure that all tags are consistent and correct. I'm a music fanatic so I'm obsessed with my files appearing in correct order to the point of matching LP collections when LP's were the thing.

Everything is set up on my server's folder structure as follows:

MASTER FOLDER: "All Media"

Sub Folder: Audio

Subfolders: Artists (and so on just as you would see in any standard media player)
Sub Folder: Video

Movies
Miniseries
TV Shows
Concerts
Personal

Serviio was orginally set up with the "All Media" folder as it's sole library folder, with content selected as both audio and video. Presentation was set to have both Audio and Video categories displayed, with folders displayed in the Video category but not in the Audio category (since all my audio files are well tagged).

The problem is when that set up is used, if you open the Video CATEGORY folder that Serviio displays, then open Folders, then Music, all the folders will display that contain music, but none of the music will display. I know this is because the categories in Serviio are actually acting as filters allowing only that category's files to be shown. That's fine. I get it. But it does make setting up displaying everything in a manner that makes sense a little bit cumbersome.

So I've deleted the All Media folder and have instead added the Video and Music subfolders as separate libraries, one categorized as Video and the other as Music (obviously).

So now I have the following process to access files:

Open Serviio

Choose Audio or Video

Audio:

Artists
Genres
Playlists
Video

Folders

Video

Concerts
Mini Series
Movies
TV Shows
Last Viewed

Maybe I'm just being OCD, but having to click "Video" twice to tell Serviio I want to watch videos is kind of, well, ugly.

Anyone have better ideas on how to set up the console and folders so they make at least a little more sense?

I can't count how many times just by giving up and deciding to post tech problems I've had only led to revealing the solution through the very process of describing the problem in detail.

Yeah, so to clean up the "ugly" presentation above, the solution was pretty simple. I deleted the Video folder library and simply replaced it by adding all it's subfolders individually to the libraries in the console.

DUH!
