MediaBrowser and external vobsub subtitles (.sub/.idx)

Is it possible to get external .sub/.idx subtitles extracted from a DVD to display in the MediaBrowser interface?
I've noticed that MediaBrowser will identify the .sub file as a target subtitle file and offer the "CC" option in the lower right hand corner of the display.

A year or two ago the lack of image-based subtitles like vobsub working in MediaBrowser made sense to me because they weren't supported more generally anyway. I was under the impression that version 1.6 now provides support for image-based subtitles generally (I may be wrong about his though). If that is the case, shouldn't MediaBrowser be able to handle the image-based subtitle files? Or does this functionality not exist yet? Or am I just doing something wrong?

I have a considerable number of such files and it would be a serious pain for me to try to convert them all into text-based subtitles like .srt (which do seem to work in MediaBrowser).

Thanks in advance.

So currently it only supports embedded vobsub subtitle tracks.

If you want support of external image-based files, please create a bitbucket ticket, incl. example file structure (video + subtitle files, naming schema, etc) and an example subtitle files.

The weird thing is that I've also tried to use embedded vobsub subtitles with both h264 mp4 and h264 mkv files but neither of them work with MediaBrowser either. The "CC" just doesn't show up in the lower right hand corner at all. Any suggestions?

Apparently nevermind. It looks like the file that I was checking with embedded subtitles was somehow corrupted. Embedded subtitles seem to be displaying fine now in MediaBrowser. Thanks.

Re: MediaBrowser and external vobsub subtitles (.sub/.idx)

As a note for those who are interested in this topic in the future, vobsub subtitles are available only as burned-in subtitles from vobsub subtitles embedded in the media file. To use them, you have to turn on that option in the Serviio server settings under the subtitle options. This will cause *all* media played from the server to display subtitles until the option is turned off again. In the MediaBrowser, you cannot use the CC "button" in the lower right part of the screen to view vobsub (or other image-based) subtitles as this function seems to be reserved for text-based subtitles.
