1.6 Pro not showing on devices

Hi,

Serviio 1.9
Lubuntu 15.10

I installed Serviio 1.6 a few weeks ago and everything was working fine, I could see it from all my devices and videos were playing normally. Now, I tested it a few weeks later and I can't access it from any of my devices. I think it might have something to do with the fact that the console is still showing "Serviio PRO v 1.6" and "Evaluation license Expires in 14 days" even though it's several weeks since it has been installed. It doesn't seem to be reverting to the free version. I was thinking to buy the Pro, just to support for future development, as I like Serviio a lot. But if I can't get it to work, there doesn't seem to be much point in paying for it, just to see if that solves the problem.

I have attached the detailed log, but I can't see anything in there that seems to be a problem except the licence.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Christopher.

Re: 1.6 Pro not showing on devices

There is one other thing that I did, that I don't know if it makes a difference. I installed Samba on my Lubuntu and put a password. But there doesn't seem to be a problem with seeing the files, just accessing from the devices.

Please let me know if this could cause the problem.

Thanks,

Christopher.

So you can see Serviio, and the categories, but no files in them?

Re: 1.6 Pro not showing on devices

Petr,

Thanks for replying. No I can't even see serviio on the devices. It's weird because it was working fine and the same day I did the last bit of the install instructions to start the service and it worked for a bit. But it's not showing at all on the devices.

Thanks in advance,

Christopher.

Re: 1.6 Pro not showing on devices

So for the licence to work, it looks like the serviio user doesn't have write access to its home directory (?).

Errors like

  Code:
WARN  [prefs] Couldn't flush user prefs: java.util.prefs.BackingStoreException: Couldn't get file lock.

Not sure if it can affect other things, but worth trying to fix it first.

Also make sure the user has write access to the temp folder /tmp

Re: 1.6 Pro not showing on devices

Thanks again Petr.

I created the user without a home directory because it said to do that in the install instructions for Ubuntu 15.04 (which is the newest one I could find).

Quote:
"There are various ways to install Serviio, but this installs it in /opt and runs it as user serviio. The useradd option -r creates a system account and does not create a home directory. This will result in warnings in serviio.log, but there seems to be no ill effect. The first line logs in as root to make a few things easier:"

Thanks again,

Christopher.

Re: 1.6 Pro not showing on devices

Petr,

Sorry to waste your time, it's the firewall. I didn't think it was that because I had disabled it and I still couldn't see serviio from the devices. But I disabled it now and rebooted and everything is working like it should. I should have guessed it was a network problem as serviio was working fine on the PC, just nothing on the devices. Thanks ever-so-much for your help, sorry it was a wild goose chase.

Christopher.
