After updating to last version (I changed nothing in serviio settings) my renderer doesn't see any subtitles and chapters muxed in *.mkv files.
Matroska is the most popular format, so lack of this feature makes serviio completly useless.

I threw away your latest version and go back to the version 1.5.2 (again without changing anything in serviio settings)
and matroska files are read properly.

I still have captions with my MKV files with 1.6 and a Sony BD player, so I don't thing anything specific to Serviio might have done that. Can't explain what the difference is for you. I'm using the Sony BDP-Sx100 (2013) profile.

Of course, with Blu-Ray rips, I've never had captions from MKV files. Only M2TS files will let me display these captions on my BD player, and they still don't appear with other players, such as my TV or Roku.

In my case after updating server to 1.6 .mkv files were shown as .m2ts files (only video track and audio track were accesible).
I'm not going to think about if Serviio might have done something or not.
As I mentioned, I didn't make any changes in serviio setting ... and going back to version 1.5.2 again provides full access to all tracks in .mkv files (video track/h264, audio track/DTS, subtitle/srt, chapters/xml) ... that's why I'm not interesting in updating my server.

In my case .m2ts files never privided access to subtitle track(PGS stream) with any version of serviio, that's why I store my all movie collection in mkv. I'm using Sony BDP-Sx80 profile. Meybe I will test same other profiles.

Subtitle support changed with 1.6 to support (generate) hardcoded subs as in the release notes. Update your subtitle settings to reflect what you want and all will be fine. Serviio depends on users reporting problems (that's your fee for being given all that free function) so reverting to the previous release should only be as a fallback after you have reported them and unsuccessfully enlisted some help to fix them.

The other thing is that the only profile that transcodes to m2ts is the Samsung B, so unless you have that very old TV, your setup is incorrect.

There is a bug in 1.6 when transcoding is invoked in cases it's not necessary. Will be fixed in 1.6.1. For now disable Stacking and possibly burned in subtitles.

I never mentioned about hardcoded subs. I wrote "muxed" subtitles files into mkv files. (for example I'm using MkvToolNixto to do it).
And I'm not interesting in transcoding option "on". The only reason that I'm using serviio to stream my film collection to my devices is that this server lets to stream raw data. I mean content is streamed without any changes. That's what my server has to do and nothing more.

I never mentioned that I have problem with TV, and I said that subtitle setup was exactly the same in bouth server versions.

If there will be a situation that I will have to turn transcoding "on" I will forget about serviio immediately.
I spent money for BD player and amplifier not to let them to stand and to catch dust. This two units in my home theatre are responsible for upscaling, decoding, upmixing, downmixing etc. Server has got to put movies and music on home network and stream content without changes. And in my case version 1.6 does not.

Application that stops provides some features after update (without any changes in its settings) is not the same application.
That's all what I wanted to say. Farther discussion is not what I tried to gain. For me version 1.5.2 is fine and the last.

Oops. Thought you were looking for help with 1.6 in the "Support & Help" forum. I can only help with current version.

I have two Sony models, the BDP-S3100 and the BDP-S3500. They're about two model years apart.

If your Sony is showing an MKV file as M2TS, it's being transcoded for some reason. I don't know if it is related to the change in captions processing, so perhaps Zip can offer some insight.

If 1.5.2 provides the functionality you need, then by all means stick with it for the time being. However, trouble reports from us users are the only method Zip has to determine if something's not working right. As mentioned, he's already aware of a caption issue that he will resolve in the next update. You might try his suggestions and see if 1.6 does what you were expecting.

When 1.6.1 is ready please give that one a try and provide feedback. Sorry, I have no idea when the next release is coming.

How are you getting Serviio to transcode your BDP to m2ts. From what I can see in the profiles all sony transcoding is to mpegts and only the samsungB specifies m2ts.
Are they one and the same?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The files are native M2TS, which is the only way I can select and actually see the caption track. If the same file is in MKV, the Sony BD player shows a caption track available and I can select it, but the track never actually displays. My guess is that the BD player recognized the M2TS as the same format as a BD disc, and processes it like a disc. The MKV it doesn't treat the same way. For either container, my Sony players do not need transcoding.
