Why No Tray Icon In v1.6?

Why is this?

Do you think it's not needed?
Does Serviio immediately add new files without any user intervention?

Apart from this, Serviio is now harder to get at.

The tray icon was there only when the actual Console was running, so there is no change really (apart from the missing tray icon menu).

You can still run Serviio Console from the Start menu, and if you want it to auto start, add it to the Start / Startup menu as a shortcut. The only difference now is that it doesn't autostart (before it started on the os boot and ran minimised).

The world is moving to Windows 10 applications, I think the tray icon will be less and less used.

Disagree - you can now access Serviio Console from any web browser anywhere on your local network, including tablets and smartphones. You can easily set-up shortcuts in these browsers, or desktop shortcuts if you really want to. There is no need for a stand-alone app to be installed on these devices (the app is there if you still want it, but its more for convenience than anything - it is not the main game). It will make configuration and control of headless servers and NAS's far easier (once they get version 1.6). You can also access the console from the internet if you have the know how and you have security in place. So it is far easier, and far more flexible, to get access to configure Serviio with this new approach.

Yes, always has had the capability to do this automatically if not instantly. From version 1.5. onward, if your OS and drives support it, files added to your shared folders are near instantly added to your library.

How do I do this?

In the web browser enter http://<your_server_ip_address>:23423/console

eg. http://192.168.0.2:23423/console

On the same machine as Serviio you can also use http://localhost:23423/console - see http://www.serviio.org/news/91-version-1-6-released.
ps smartphone or tablet must be connected to your local network (by WiFi), not to the cellular (mobile data) network.

Well, the localhost address works, but not the server IP address.

I have a TP-Link Archer D9 router which has an IP address of http://192.168.1.1
So, I entered:
http://192.168.1.1:23423/console

But, it doesn't work.
I even tried my external IP address, but it doesn't work.

No, not the router IP Address. You need to use the IP address of PC (or NAS) that Serviio is installed on. Sorry this wasn't clear b4.

I still proffered it put an icon in the tray so I knew right away it was running. Windows 10 or not, many people still use W10 just like W7 and XP with a normal desktop. Even Microsoft figured that out and quit making the metro screen default for desktop users.
