Display of Series titles on limited access renderer

I have a renderer (XBox One) assigned to the Limited Access group, with several folders containing TV series not assigned to that group. This works as it should in the Folders category, only showing the folders assigned to Limited access. However I also have the Series category enabled and this is showing the titles of all TV series in the library, whether or not the folders they are contained in are assigned to the Limited Access group.

When a series is selected on the XBox that is in a folder NOT assigned to the Limited group, it says "no media". Is there any way to prevent Serviio from displaying these series names on the renderer(s) they are not available for?

Re: Display of Series titles on limited access renderer

Currently not - the access groups are assigned to particular folders as you say, not 'virtual containers', like series. We show the series names so that the browse is faster, otherwise it'd have to check that all episodes of all seasons would have to belong to a folder with different access groups.

You could theoretically have most of a season in a protected folder and some episodes laying around in unprotected folders. So then it'd be impossible to work out if the series as a whole is actually protected or not. To perform all these checks the browsing of series would require more complex database queries and would slow it down.

You get the same behaviour under other virtual categories, like Genres, Actors etc (eg an empty Horror genre folder)

Re: Display of Series titles on limited access renderer

Thanks Petr. When thinking of Series as a virtual category this makes perfect sense. However, if at some stage in the future Access Group functionality is enhanced this is probably something that will need to be addressed.

In your example, I think the logical behaviour would be to display a series title if one or more episodes are contained in unprotected folder(s). Of course, only the unprotected episodes would be viewable.

May I also suggest as a performance enhancement that the top level category items query results be pre-cached, perhaps executing queries for every category each time a library refresh has found changes. This way at browse time the top level items in each category could be quickly retrieved from cache, eliminating database lag.
