video playback stops but service still runs

Hi all,
I used Serviio for some years with full satisfaction. Zero problems.
On september my PC (running Serviio) had a breakdown and I changed the motherboard; then reinstalled the system and all software. The only other difference was the installation of a SSD as system disk (before it was on a partition of the harddisk).
Since then there is a problem: sometimes, when viewing video from Serviio on the TV, the video suddenly close itself and the next in the list starts.
- There is no regular frequency: may be the video runs with no problem till the end, may be it stops every 5 minutes;
- all files used are stored in local folders;
- the problem occurs on TV and on other PCs in the lan;
- there is, as I can see, no problem on the network;
- no message in the Serviio log file;
- the service continue running without interruptions.

Configuration:
- PC Windows 7 enterprise 64bit (CPU Athlon II x3 - RAM 4GB)
- router Draytek Vigor 2700
- TV Samsung UE40C6000RW (cable connected)
- switch Netgear

Does someone can help me? Thanks

Re: video playback stops but service still runs

Is your temporary transcode folder location pointed to a folder on your SSD. If so try pointing it to a regular HDD.

Re: video playback stops but service still runs

Yes, the temp transcode folder points to SSD. Now I changed it to HDD, then restart the service.
First tests seems to be good. Let's see forward.

Just a curiosity.
After that, restarting the service, in the log file I see this line:
  Code:
2014-12-26 10:26:52,757 INFO  [MediaServer] Temp dir: C:\Windows\TEMP\

This is the previous temp transcode folder. But I changed it. Is this another thing?

Re: video playback stops but service still runs

Please keep us informed re: the change from SSD to HDD and whether it fixes the issue. Have had some reports in the past that suggest it may, but the more definitive information the better to assist other users.

I think that [INFO] simply refers to the Windows temp folder location rather than the Transcoded Files Location but zip can confirm.

Re: video playback stops but service still runs

I was too optimistic: pointing the temp transcode folder to HDD (instead of SSD) doesn't solve the problem.
Any suggest?

- no message in the Serviio log file;
Did you try a detailed log to see if that shows anything?

Re: video playback stops but service still runs

Ok, last two weeks it runs without problem, but today the error happens again. The attached log contains the moment of the error.
The requested file is "Django unchained"; after few minutes it stops and starts "Frozen river", the next in the list.

Re: video playback stops but service still runs

I recently added an SSD as my system disk and reinstalled _everything_, O/S and upwards. I use the standard windows temp folder for transcoding (on the SDD) and have never had any issues - and realistically, the SDD should if anything be better than an HDD as it will be much faster to access.

DenyAll mentioned that some users have had success by using a HDD rather than an SDD for transcoding, but to be honest I can't think why this would be as programs shouldn't "see" any difference between drives, the O/S just serves up the data as requested. That said I've not a clue how DLNA works on a technical level so I wouldn't necessarily rule it out until one of the guys has checked through the logs you posted.

I did wonder if it might be a problem reading specific files. I've had issues with some files where the rendered can't read a specific part of it, so it fails (and depending on the renderer, either moves on to what it considers "next" or just dumps me back to the file list). However, if this were the case it would fail at the same part each time, which you ruled out.

The only other thing I can think of is that the TV is losing the connection to Serviio for some reason, so it plays up until the buffer runs out then automatically ends the stream. Similar issues have been reported both on this forum and elsewhere (a few links below), though I'm not sure why it would start the next file as you described. If this is indeed the issue, a workaround which seems to have worked before is manually altering the advertising interval (see top link below) so that the rendered doesn't have chance to "lose" the source.

Not sure how much use this all will be to be honest, but hopefully it isn't a complete waste of time. :D
