Message : No JVM could be found on your system

When starting my PC, with autamatic start for serviio, I get an erreor message:

No JVM could be found on your system
Please define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 64-bit JDK or JRE or download a JRE from www.java.com

I allready reinstalled JAVA from scratch and reinstalled serviio.
I tried to define the requested Environment EXE4J_JAVA_HOME variable in the system.
The issue is unchanged.

My system is running under Vista 64bits Home Premium (french release) with SP2
My java :
C:\Users\PhilDur>java -version
java version "1.8.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_25-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.25-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

C:\Users\PhilDur>

Any help is welcome

You need 64bit Java, not 32 bit.

Re: Message : No JVM could be found on your system

Hi zip
Thank you for your response.

I went on Oracle Java page and they claim :

SUMMARY

64-bit Windows operating systems (such as Windows 7, Vista or XP) come with a 32-bit Internet Explorer (IE) browser as the standard (default) for viewing web pages. These operating systems also include a 64-bit Internet Explorer browser, however using it is optional and it must be explicitly selected to view web pages. Note that because some web content may not work properly in a 64-bit browser, we recommend using the default 32-bit browser and downloading 32-bit Java.

I'm using both IE and Firefox. I'm using for both their respective 32 bits versions.
Do you confirm I shall use 64 bits Java

Re: Message : No JVM could be found on your system

Hi I went again and again through the site and found another thread which relates on exactly the same bug.
Serviio still uses a very old release of Java.
My Java run time is up to date ; I mean regularly updated.
I unstalled Serviio, downloaded the latest release and tried to reinstall and suddenly came a pop up stating Java was not installed on my computer.

I was then asked to install Java, I accepted. A prehistoric, and thus vulnerable, release (java 6) of Java was downloaded and installed.

As lohng as Serviio will not be able to locate the standard uptodate release of Java I will not use Serviio.

We are told tu keep our systems uptodate, if Serviio still uses obsoletes java release it becomes a dangerous product.

Your answers with 32 or 64 bits runtimes are not pertinent, just keep them four you.

Re: Message : No JVM could be found on your system

I had the same problem afer updating a number of drivers on my PC. Windows 7 Home premium.

I uninstalled Java with Revouninstaller (complete) and then Serviio.

The 64 bit version of Java was then installed using the offline version (This avoids any conflict with the internet server).

Then the 32 bit version of Java was installed, also offline.

In both cases I let the installation to choose the folder to use.

I then reinstalled Serviio and reloaded the plug ins.

After rebooting Serviio worked perfectly again.

I would add that Vuze also had the same problem but this was solved by reinstalling the programme prior to the above.

It has been a while since I installed Serviio, but I've recently updated both JRE and JDK to v8 update 25 (64-bit) and have absolutely no problems. I do recall some issues when I first installed, and though I can't remember specifics I'm pretty sure it was a botched Java install and I had to set the PATH variables manually.

I'm not sure whether the installer is pointing at an old version if it doesn't detect an install, but Serviio certainly doesn't seem to enforce an old version and runs just fine on the latest stable version as far as I can tell.

Zip has pointed out that due to your system config, Serviio needs a 64-bit version of Java in order to work properly - you should be fine to install JRE 8 Update 25 64-bit from the Java website which Serviio should then detect and work with, assuming the PATH variables are set properly during the Java install.

The link to the Java website is this: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html

You will need to accept the license agreement, then you want the file named "jre-8u25-windows-x64.exe". Try to install it and let us know how you get on. :)
