mkv audio

Hi

Probably have explained this a million times in this forum but I am trying to get my head around why some .mkv files will have audio and some not have audio when streaming. I open them locally with VLC and work fine. Is there a codec update needed here?

The Generic Profile you are using streams all video files to your TV/device in its native format. Your TV then must be able to decode the video and audio types for that media.

Is there a codec update needed here?

The fact that your TV doesn't play the audio is likely because your TV doesn't have the required decoder for the audio type within that MKV file - unfortunately you can only upgrade decoders (codecs) on your TV via a firmware upgrade and these are rare for most devices, and rarely include decoder updates. This is where transcoding comes in - if you select a different profile you will tell Serviio to transcode the audio (and if necessary the video) that your TV doesn't natively understand into something it does.

So to fix your problem, try selecting a different profile for your device on the Serviio Console, Status tab. Which profile you select (or whether you need a custom one) - depends on your device (which you haven't told us).
