Onkyo FLAC "Cannot Play"

Hi,

I have an Onkyo TX-NR717 and Serviio 1.3 running on a Windows Server 2012 machine. The Onkyo is running the latest firmware (13 June 2013).

I have the following issue:
When starting playback of a FLAC file (normally I'll select the first song in an album), the Onkyo will think about it, after 5-6 seconds will say Cannot Play and then start playing the next song. If I then skip back to the previous song it'll play it fine.
In addition, and this happens rarely, in the middle of playing back a song it'll say Cannot Play and start skipping songs one after the other with the same message.

What I did to try and resolve this issue:
Increasing playback buffer on Serviio to 20MB. Did not make a difference. Tried upping to 50MB and the Onkyo wouldn't connect to the server so reverted back to 20.
I increased the buffer to try to resolve another issue where playback would stop and resume after a few seconds in the middle of a song (this issue seems to be resolved), I simply can't think of anything else I can do for the main issue.

Other than this issue FLAC playback is good, I can play back even high resolution files all the way up to 192/24 (which btw sound amazing...)

I have tried writing to Onkyo but it appears to be a total waste of time.

Can anyone suggest what else I can do to try and resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Onkyo FLAC "Cannot Play"

I assume the files are not transcoded?

Re: Onkyo FLAC "Cannot Play"

Hi Petr - correct, transcoding has been completely disabled in Serviio

not sure then. the current buffer setting should be ideal, afaik. Did you try with other servers? Did you ask Onkyo support?

Re: Onkyo FLAC "Cannot Play"

I haven't tried with other servers, was hoping there would be something I could enable/change on Serviio to troubleshoot.

I spoke to Onkyo re the playback hiccup issue (which isn't resolved btw) but they're absolutely useless. All they would say is "they tested their receivers with DLNA servers with no issues". Couldn't say which servers.

Reading on the net it appears it may be a compatibility issue between Serviio and Onkyo. There are some DLNA servers that officially support Onkyo receivers (Mezzmo, JRiver Media Center) so it appears some work needs to be done to make the DLNA server play nicely with certain client devices. Purely supporting the DLNA standard seems insufficient unfortunately.

Is there any tweak you could think of I could try on Serviio?
