[Solved]Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NAS

Hi I have been trying to solve this problem for a while now, after reading the wiki I think I may have a problem with my permissions or something.

Serviio is on win7 laptop, trying to pull files from a Seagate GoFlex Home 3tb NAS which has no operating system to stream to Samsung TV D series. I have used the pathways \\192.168.1.3\Go Flex Home Public\MoviesNAS and \\GOFLEX_HOME\Go Flex Home Public\MoviesNAS. Both of these pathways will show the MoviesNAS folder but no content inside.

I have serviio streaming content from my laptop no problems using mapped pathways.

I am the only user on this laptop with no password. I dont really know what I am doing here if I can just have someone walk me through what I need to do would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Travis

can you try both of these methods in windows explorer and see if you can see the files? Can you post your serviio.log file.

Re: Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NAS

Thankyou for helping me!

OK the pathways I posted here were slightly incorrect, however the actual pathway still produces nil results. I can access "\\192.168.1.3\GoFlex Home Public\MoviesNAS" through windows explorer by providing the NAS username and password. I have removed all other pathways from the serviio console to keep it as simple as possible, let me know what else I need to do.

How can I post the log file here? It is over 60000 characters.

Cheers,
Travis

You can attach it. if it's too big you can zip it.

Re: Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NAS

OK for anyone with the same problem, I solved this interestingly by reading the troubleshooter for tversity, specifically this section:

The TVersity Media Server will not be able to access content on the network unless the Windows service that corresponds to it has a log-on account of an administrative user of your choice. By Default the TVersity Media Server is installed such that it uses the system account. This account is very limited when it comes to networking and therefore it is necessary to modify it to a different account that is not limited in that respect. You can use your own account or if you prefer you can set-up a separate account for the media server. Here are the steps involved in changing the log-on account on Windows XP/2K:
Go to the Start menu / Settings / Control Panel. The control panel window should open.
Double click the Administrative Tools icon. The administrative tools window should be displayed.
Double click the Services icon from this window. The Services window should open.
Locate the TVersityMediaServer in the list of service and double click on it. A properties window should open. Select the Log On tab at the top of the property window. The Log On options should be displayed.
In this window, the Local System Account should appear as selected, and you should change it to This account. Enter your user name (or the user name of the account you wish the TVersity Media Server to use) in the text box next to the This Account label. Enter your password and confirm it and the click OK. This should close the properties window and the Services windows should now be visible again.
In the service window, make sure the TVersityMediaServer is still selected and click the underlined Restart (or if not available click the Start) on the top left corner of this window. This should restart the server using the newly entered account. If no error occurs you have successfully completed the process.
If some error occured please repeat the entire process and make sure you follow each step carefully.
On Windows Vista, if file virtualization is turned off, you may need to change the value of the registry key HKLM->Software->TVersity->Media Server->HOME to the path of the user account assigned to the TVersity Media Service (for example: C:\users\thetversityuseraccount\Media Server).
Also, avoid using mapped network drives inside playlists since these become available only upon log in and therefore are not visible to services. Instead use a full path starting with two slash characters on Windows, followed by the name of the computer on which the media resides, followed by another slash character and then followed by the name of the shared folder (and optionally also a path under this folder), for example: \\computername\sharename\path\to\file.

I had to create a password for my windows user account, then in the serviio services log in tab select my username from a list and enter my new password, and it worked. Perhaps this info could be updated into the serviio wiki?

Re: [Solved]Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NA

i have the same problem but i'm a little confused about this answer, can anyone help me?

basically, i have a goflex specific user account that i need to enter credentials for in order to access the network storage. i think they're saved on my profile, but not positive. i only had to enter them once and then when i got o my network places, the drives are always visible.

i went into the serviio service options and saw where i could change the built in user account. if i change from the local system account to my current user account where i log into the goflex from, serviio doesn't start at all. i get the following error message:

could not start the serviio service on the local computer. error 1069: the service did not start due to logon failure.

i tried it multiple times so i'm sure i'm typing the password in correctly.

am i missing something or does that seem like it should have worked?

thanks for any help

Re: [Solved]Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NA

I figured it out so i thought i'd post what i did in case anyone else was confused. The basic steps are as follows:

create a username / password to logon to the goflex drive
create a windows user account with the same username / password as the goflex logon
open up the serviio service, found in run / services.msc / serviio
on the log on tab, change the logon from the local system to the newly created windows username / password

serviio will now be able to access the goflex drive with those credentials.

Re: [Solved]Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NA

It worked! thanks.

I had to do an additional thing though simple... Stop and Start the service, BUT do it with the buttons on the Status Tab of the Serviio Console, under the Server Status section of the tab.

My Serviio version is 1.0

Re: [Solved]Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NA

Hope a Serviio Guru can help. I was delighted to find this thread as it replicates my problem exactly, apart from my GoFlex being 2TB. I have followed all the instructions here and still Serviio does not show the content of the GoFlex. It is fine with a USB drive and a local HDD drive. It is really doing my head in, please help

Re: [Solved]Serviio unable to read files from GoFlex Home NA

lol i updated to 1.1 or whatever new version and it won't read the files once more... poor job on your updates serviio, might as well change to plex but i will try to replicate what i did last time for a little while... seriously, can't believe updating makes the matter worse instead of making them better (i updated trying to solve some minor stability issues, videos were dropping occasionally at random, now i cant see them at all once more)

Help! Same problem! I have tried the suggested fixes with no joy! When I try to change the log on from local to this account I get a message saying the account name is invalid . I know I'm putting the wrong path in but am a nooby to computers.
