Synology and network setup

Hello - i'm new here - and new to my Synology DS211j and Serviio, and to forums!, so apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place.

Have new Synology DS211j - am finding it generally exellent.

Have Panasonic TX42B30 TV - and was recommended Serviio as the media server to use.

Have installed servio 0.6.0.1 on the DS211j, and (i think) all is OK there - it is shown as running.

I think i have all permissions correct....

Here is the thing.

If i have serviio server running on a PC on the home (windows XP) network, the TV can see the servier running on the PC (and it works fine).

If i dont have server on PC running the TV cannot see the server on the DS211j, and this is how i want to use it so that PC does not have to be running.

serviio remote console seems to find the ds211j installation, but when i add path to the library \\Diskstation211j\music (a shared folder with permissions set) , no files are found, the 'show status' button has two red dots.
the pathe file is shown as /volume1/homes/servio/\\Diskstation211j\music.

I must have one more simple thing to do that eludes me, so can anyone help here?

I have the transcoding path set as /volume1/@tmp 1 core, generate tumbnails for videos is unchecked, and Bound ip is set to the tv ip address

Thanks for looking

Re: Which NAS can be used with Serviio

because your file are on same device as the server you will need to enter a local path NOT a shared path into the remote console. :) (eg /volume1/home/movies)

Re: Which NAS can be used with Serviio

Thank you -
this seemed to work - did not work using 'add local' folder though, needed to use 'add path' and use /volume/etc

library now is updating - beeg working for a while now, (there are a lot of flies...)

when done will see if the TV can see it too.

thanks

Re: Which NAS can be used with Serviio

Thank you -

The TV is a Panasonic TX-L42E30B (i had the number wrong earlier)

This 'saw' the serviio server when i 'tested it' on a windows machine before removing this and installing on the Synology Ds211j NAS.

Serviio on the NAS is stilll searching and indexing the files....

I have just used Device Spy, and this doesnt see the TV only our Kodak printer.(which is all that it reports) and entering the ip of the TV manually says 'could not load device'

Looking on the DNLA website does not show the TV - although the handbook for the TX-42LE30B tells me it is DLNA certified..., and it did find the 'windows' serviio server when it was installed as test..

Do i need to wait for the librabry search to complete before the TV will recognise it?

Re: Which NAS can be used with Serviio

OK - on the PC i am using at the moment - 'Device Spy' sees only the Kodak Printer.

With a different machine on the network 'Device Spy' can see Windows Media, Kodak Printer and Panasonic Viera E30 series.

TV is still not recognising serviio on the Synology NAS.

Windows medial player 11 (on the machine that Device spy sees the viera, sees the Synology mac address as an 'unknown device, and see the Panasonic Viera E30 Series

Our iPad sees the DS server on Synology fine...

I have attched a txt file with the sink file from the PC that can see the TV

The 3 items displaid in Device Spy on this MAchine are not the only upnp devices on the network though, i dont think, there are other printers, phones,

Re: Synology and network setup

I've split the topic. Make sure you're binding to the right IP address and that your TV is on the same subnetwork as the NAS.

Re: Synology and network setup

probably not related, but your console cannot connect to the server on 192.168.1.50. Are you even running the console on the NAS?

Re: Synology and network setup

Hello - the server is running on the NAS - Serviio server is not installed elsewhere.

In the NAS package centre it is shown as running

Windows Media player can see it at the NAS ip address, although it does report as 'unknown'

Servio Console connects to it - i think

How else may i confirm that it is running?

Re: Synology and network setup

That is curious, as i can use the windows serviio remote console and it seems to connect to a server that has library files

In the DMA package info on the synology the servio package is shown as 'running'.

The log file i have sent is from windows - is there one on the NAS that i dont know how to find?

ah ok, this is the console log only - that's why ;-) there is a similar file on the NAS side, under Serviio installation folder (in log folder)

Re: Synology and network setup

Hello - newbie question phrasing i think.

I can see the log when i look at the package centre 'more' but cannot copy or save this

I cannot see it in the file browser, so where is it on the NAS and how do i get to it to copy and attach here....
