Hi,
Does anybody know how to install Serviio on Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition? Currently it has Twonky but I prefer serviio. It has an application manager installer but I don't know how. I've installed serviio on my freenas box and windows, that is why I like using it. I replaced my freenas with this Iomega as a replacement for my media server.
Thanks.

hi, thanks for the interest....
it says on the website ...
Operating System
EMC® LifeLine™ Home
and it says as well that
Only valid applications built using the Iomega StorCenter SDK can be installed on your Home Media Network Hard Drive.

EMC LifeLine™ - A fully-developed Linux operating environment and suite of applications
It is running linux. Can you access the console or SSH with it?
what is the model number of the unit?

The information I qouted above is from the Iomega's web site, Since it is based on linux there might be a way to access console or get SSH access. That is what I use to do with my WD world Edition My Book. It used a custom linux also and I installed different programs and customized it the way I wanted.

iomega dont make the lifeline os it is made by a company called EMC ( its a locked os like android and ios ) you wont be able to get serviio to work from this device.
bit of info on lifeline: ( they do have there own media server application though )
http://nccsk.com/ss4200e/doc/emc-lifeli ... mxI96qvM5gyou can run serviio from a pc and use that to access files stored on the NAS though.

I do not have one of these devices to try but I found this online.
http://ss4200.pbworks.com/w/page/5122748/Enable%20SSH%20Access%20on%20the%20SS4200-E- Code:
After some playing around (and someone else finding the root password on the unit), the easiest way to enable ssh is:
1.Boot the NAS up. We assume you've stepped through the standard setup process via the NAS Web page and have set the admin password.
2.Navigate to http://nas_ip_address/support.html and enable remote ssh access.
3.SSH to the device and login as root with a password of 'soho<admin_password>'. Eg if the admin password was 'pAssword', the root password for the NAS would be 'sohopAssword'.
If you can get the SSH to work, you can see what the versions of the librarys and the OS kernel is. This would allow you to determine if Serviio or any other programs could be installed on the NAS.

Hi,
HMND2 is the model number.
When I try to activate the remote access it only give me the option for HTTP, there is nothing for SSH.
I tried using Putty just to see if it will response, but I got a fatal error.
Thanks.

Found some information on it. Look here:
http://iomega.nas-central.org/wiki/Category:Home_Media_CE If this is not the correct one navigate to the "Main Page" on that web site and look on the right side for the correct one. If it is the correct one, there is a link at the bottom of the page on "Root access enabling (Home Media CE)"
and here in the forum, they are talking about installing FFMPEG and Transmission.

Based on the specs below, will serviio work?
The OS appears to be based on Debian Lenny:
root@hmnhd-TI1S0O:/# cat /etc/debian_version
5.0.6
root@hmnhd-TI1S0O:/# cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.31.14 (
soho@bsoho089.lss.emc.com) (gcc version 4.3.2 (crosstool-NG-1.3.1) ) #1 SMP Wed Feb 2 16:59:09 EST 2011
Swap is not provided by a swap partition but by a 512 MB file at /mnt/system/swapfile:
root@hmnhd-TI1S0O:/# cat /proc/swaps
Filename Type Size Used Priority
/mnt/system/swapfile file 524280 0 -1

There is a god chance that it will, just getting it installed maybe the tough part. Try and follow one of the linux install threads on here. You might have to compile ffmpeg to get it to install right.
Also you need to make sure that java is installed.
