Serviio

Hi,

Apologies for the newbie question, but where do I install the serviio-0.5-linux.tar.gz file and untar it on the DNS-323?
I've installed fun_plug, set up SSH and can log in, but that's as far as I've gotten. My Linux skills are pretty non-existent too.
I've searched the forums, but didn't find anything that would seem to apply to the DNS-323.

My intent is to stream videos (including .mkv) from the DNS to my Samsung BD-C6300 Bluray player. The native uPnP AV server on the NAS doesn't stream .mkv and other files, and is pretty crappy in general. I'm hoping Serviio is the right product for my intent.

...one more question. Just found out there is no java installed on the DNS-323. Any suggestion which version and from where to install?

Thanks, appreciate your help. However I DID search and google, I just must have missed that one. Believe me, being technical (network, windows & mainframe) I prefer to be self sufficient and find my own answers. I only post when I've run out of options...

How can I set up my own DNS Server? I'm planning on starting a new DNS server so I can host my own domains. I have searched a few sites on how to do it... But most our windows servers... I will be using a Linux server (CentOS) for the web server... Is it possible to use Windows Server as the DNS Server and link to Linux as the web server?
