loaded 1.3.1 on qnap ts120 - hulu issues

I purchased a QNAP TS-120 and found the Serviio 1.3.1 update listed on a posting here. I found a JRE for arm processors. I loaded everything and it worked well for cbs.com, at least so far. All my hulu listings say 'no playable file'. I have Serviio 1.3.1 loaded on a windows 7 machine with no issues. The hulu items were loaded properly. I loaded a few manually and cbs.com shows were the only ones that worked. I even tried copying the library over from Windows. All shows from it listed and the cbs.com shows looked like they would work. Crackle also works well. ABC.com does not w0rk either.

I replaced the groovy (Thanks for pre-loading the groovys on QNAP, BTW.) I played with the renderer machine selections. Still no success.

Any ideas?

Either the plugin is broken or you don't have FFmpeg with libRTMP support.

Thanks much for your reply. I was wondering if it was flash related since swf was noted so many times.

Is there a workaround with maybe an older version formerly released from this site? I really only want cbs.com and hulu streams without having to turn on my pc. I don't care about videos and music recordings. Only streaming from the internet. The QNAP TS-120 appears to be a bulldog for an arm. If I can get this to work, I will not only buy a copy, I will blog about how successful this is for streaming, if you want.

If the same links work on your Windows box, it'll be the FFmpeg binary on your NAS. Where did you get the QNAP package? I'm not sure, but i assume the package linked in this forum should have the right FFmpeg bundled in. If not, you will have to build it, incl. libRTMP support.

Someone names Xmantium linked to a post in this forum and also to a QNAP site. I downloaded it from the posting in this forum. Obviously, it was his work, not yours.

I uninstalled 1.3.1 and loaded a 1.1 I found on the QNAP site. Same problems about streaming. cbs.com works. Hulu does not. Is there any way to fix this? I have no idea how to program groovys or use libRTMP. Is there any way to load Flash on QNAP ARM, just to see if it works? Do you think Flash might be a problem? (Rss feed -not working Web Resource- yes working)

Streaming TV is going to be a big deal. Lots of programs can do videos and music. No program other than Serviio can stream from the internet to a TV as well as Serviio. I don't want to leave my PC on all the time, hence the NAS. Even when it is working at full, it uses the power of 2 old time (non-led) night lights.

The blog I mentioned is a work in progress and won't have any significant content until late 2013. It deals with home server issues and will either be a go-to site or completely ignored. I'll know by or before this time next year.

The QPKG QNAP package ive made (to help novice QNAP users install Serviio) is bundled with csholmq ffmpeg for ARM chips, he has kindly provided his compiled ffmpeg here - http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=2 ... 30#p368795

The ffmpeg uses static FFmpeg 2.0.1 and not Serviio ffmpeg source
It is compiled with librtmp.
  Code:
 # /share/HDA_DATA/.qpkg/Serviio/opt/bin/ffmpeg -i
ffmpeg version 2.0.1-Qnap_csholmq Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the FFmpeg developers
built on Sep 17 2013 23:34:11 with gcc 4.2.3 (GCC)
  configuration: --arch=arm --disable-armv6 --disable-armv6t2 --disable-neon --disable-vfp --prefix=/opt --extra-libs=-ldl --enable-static --disable-shared --disable-ffplay --disable-ffserver --enable-pthreads --enable-libmp3lame --enable-librtmp --enable-libshine --enable-libfdk-aac --extra-version=Qnap_csholmq
  libavutil      52. 38.100 / 52. 38.100
  libavcodec     55. 18.102 / 55. 18.102
  libavformat    55. 12.100 / 55. 12.100
  libavdevice    55.  3.100 / 55.  3.100
  libavfilter     3. 79.101 /  3. 79.101
  libswscale      2.  3.100 /  2.  3.100
  libswresample   0. 17.102 /  0. 17.102

csholmq also kindly provides full documentation ffmpeg compiled for Serviio here - http://csholmq.se/blog/static_ffmpeg

Not tested HULU yet as i like in UK, but all my other RSS plugins working fine
Which country do you live in?

I just had a 'duh' moment and came up with a more than satisfactory work-around.

I enabled wake-on-lan on a laptop and wired it into the router. It's a spare that easily supports serviio and is a windows machine. It's off in a corner and out of the way, but I can use serviio as a dvr for recent shows. If it works really well, I might replace it with an old netbook off eBay or a small Zbox.

I would still like to know about getting the QNAP TS-120 functional as described here, but this will do. I will keep my promise and buy a copy as I now plan to use serviio as more than a hobby machine. I'll devote a page to serviio streaming if you like. My only reservation is hulu and others not liking a public description of a free backdoor, even if it is a little limited. The blog will be a go-to site or mostly ignored when it's a going concern. It will be a how-to site for the advanced non-geek.

Another question, a little off topic for this posting area (some people really get fussy about this), but I'm here and the logic building up to this question is pertinent.

I'm using a sony blue ray DVD player as my renderer. It's a little clunky as I don't watch many dvds but it's a great as for DLNA. Which ones, or which class of DLNA players, are the least intrusive to use? Are smart TVs worth it? What about little WD boxes or similar like ROKU and the others? I would like to make accessing serviio streams as close to simply changing channels as possible, as opposed to pressing a long series of buttons before getting to the streams. Any recommendations or features to avoid?

There are already topics for the best DLNA devices around. Check the General discussion and maybe user Experiences forums.

I got wake on lan working well. It took the usual wake on lan configurations, plus some windows know how. I had to trap an event, then use it to start a scheduled job to emulate a mouse jiggle. Otherwise, the pc went back to sleep in a couple of minutes. I'm playing around with some other home server configurations with it just for fun. The QNAP TS-120 will be the main workhorse for all except Serviio as it doesn't support hulu streaming. I think QNAP hulu doesn't support Serviio for the same reasons that most, if not all, non-windows systems won't stream hulu unless it's hulu+. Any way to send the hulu servers a 'fake id' so they think linux is windows? I'll write about the windows wake on lan machinations in the blog later when I have sufficient materials to make it interesting from the start. I bought the license and plan to write nice things about Serviio streaming off the internet.

You can download Serviio Winhelper Sleep management- viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12136
This is an extra tool to stop your PC going sleep while using Serviio

I have played HULU before on my QNAP by using DNS tricks using http://tunlr.net/ but it was on my older Intel QNAP
So i do know HULU works on Lunix

Thanks, much. I will look into the hulu workaround and the wake on lan alternative. The TS-120 comes with an application called Squid. It might be able to tell hulu something different.

The fix you suggested works well. You should make it public. I used winscp / ssh to copy it over. I have fully functional hulu on my ts120.
