Looking for people with QNAP devices and Serviio

Guys

I'm looking to replace my media server setup with a QNAP device with a Serviio QPKG installed. I need to stream 1080p over my gigabit network and want to know which models people have that natively manage this? I currently have an old Quad Core machine running with Serviio on it to stream movies from my internal 3TB drive setup...I want to replace this to something a bit smaller and more energy concious.

Will the Atom processors handle it? After recommendations for a noob please :)

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wiggs,

I have a QNAP TS-459U-RP+-US Turbo NAS running serviio on a home network and it serves 1080 Blu-ray rips, without problem, to 8 WDTV live SMPs.
By coincidence, day before yesterday, I was running 2 1080 vid's simultaneously to test WDTV box performance and resource usage on the QNAP. 1 out of 4 cpu cores topped 3% during the time I monitored.
About the same performance I get on my 6 core Mac. I also noted PLEX had one core pegged at 100% without serving anything. Still do not know what that was about. I just shut down PLEX and all was well.

Regards from Jamaica

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at something more along the lines of a 469L....would this still manage? Typically I'm serving 720/1080p movies to 3 TV's, at most, simultaneously from my Quad Core Q9550 CPU machine.

I use the 269L with the slightly less powerful Intel atom than the 469L. I know it will mange 2 simultaneous 1080p streams to my TV's no problem. Haven't tried 3.

I'm just trying to make sure I have enough power to stream, and can add in plugins (like serviio, and others) to allow me to power down my old beastly Quad core machine.

If you reckon this will suffice I'll look into it.

Cheers

I have 419p II and a few WDTV SMP as well...I'm interested in Serviio in large part because of WDTV's inability to quickly display movie covers and backgrounds from a NAS.

What is the GUI like with Serviio/WDTV...I don't know what to expect and I don't see any screenshots anywhere.

Do movies play natively on WDTV or is Serviio transcoding and streaming in all instances ?

Early investigations in consideration of using PLEX were abandoned with use of WDTV due to lack of app or GUI...so I'm wondering if I face similar limitation presently with Serviio/WDTV ?

It would be great if the person with 8 WDTV were able to shed any light on it...excited about prospects but not anxious to complicate my setup for little to no gain.

Thanks !!

Qnap comes with media players so serviio is redundant unless you want to stream off the internet, which it does well.

I have a ts120 that streams hulu and CBS well now. Atom based drives provide more power. Asustor makes atom drives at a competitive price, but performance and quality are unknown.

Hi i am searching the way to stream Videos on QNAP TS-421 on my SONY BRAVIA TV 46HX855 . using serviio server running on my desktop PC.
on website FAQ there is written to write address of the server with UNC path, (e.g. \\server\folder)).
So i use it, now the remote folder is avalaible on TV, but folder is empty ! no video shown.
The only way to stream videos is to copy files from NAS to local folder of pc.

p.s. i wish do not install any qpkg onto my nas.

is there a solution to see the videos on Sony tv?

thanks
