Great, I will give it a try when I come home from work!
Re: PACKAGE for Synology NAS
Okay,
I installed all the files and did the things you mentioned in your blog. For now it seems to work, as I can see in 'Library status' it is checking for new files.
Think this is gonna last a night or so, because of the number of files it has to scan (about 17.000 photo's, 200 home-made movies, music, and a lot of 'normal' movies).
A few of my own movies were at first not recognized because of a codec my SamsungTV (D-series) couldn't handle. Whenever the scanning is ready, I will try them through Serviio and see what happens and get back to you with my feedback.
For now: Thumbs up!!!!
Cheers, Leon

Re: Work in progress - Package for Synology NAS
Hi,
Unfortunately the scanning hangs at about 4800 photo's as I can see.
On my TV I can connect to Serviio and it finds a few photo-maps, not all (less then 10%). The others like music and movies are not found at all (but they are not scanned yet, as the scanning hangs).
When it hangs, the Serviio packege on my DS111 is stopped, I have to manually restart it in the package center in the Synology. Tried that 2 times now when it happened.
Another thing I noticed is the following:
The Synology makes (seperate from Serviio) a lot of thumbnails from every photo in your photo-map. For myself, that process lasted a week before it had all the thumbs created (is also an issue on the Synology-forum, and has nothing to do with Serviio). Those thumbs you cannot see in different maps, it only helps you when you generate an album.
Reason why I mention it here is because I can see Serviio scans all those thumbs (about 5 for each photo), and shows them when I connect the TV to Serviio. The ' show hidden files' is not checked.
Not a big deal, just a notice.
What I now will try is to remove all the shared folders in Serviio, and put them up again, but now 1 by 1, starting with the movies. When those are scanned I will link the next shared folder and so on. Perhaps that helps.
Cheers, Leon
Edit: I cannot remove the shared folders. Visually they are removed, but after save, it starts scanning them again and when I restart the server, the folders are there again...

Re: Work in progress - Package for Synology NAS
Okay, new update
As I cannot remove the shared folders, I just removed the checkingmarks at the folders.
Serviio now scanned my moviefolders and they show on my TV through the Serviioserver now.
The good news: some files I cannot play straight through the tv because of a missing codec are playing through Serviio!!!
The bad news: these movies are not watchable because the stuttering is to much, about every few seconds it states 'loading' and then moves on.
Also, the thumbnails of the movies shows al kind of thumbs, but not the one of the movie (for example: a homemade movie shows a thumb of Lord of the Rings...). Generate thumbnails for homemade movie is not checked by the way.
When I take a look into the CPU-usage of my Synology, everytime I play a movie that transcodes, the CPU-level rises to 100% for 'ffmpeg'.
Can you help me out with this information?
Leon

Re: Work in progress - Package for Synology NAS
The Synology's CPU is not powerful enough for video transcoding - only audio, and remuxing containers (so mkv -> m2ts for instance). The video you saw re-buffering was probably transcoding to mpeg2video.
As for Photo thumbnails and so on, I'm afraid I never use it for that. I'm not organised enough to make a photo repository. I have stuff in iPhoto on my Mac but it's not well organised and I remember it didn't work well with Serviio when I tried it with 0.5 or thereabouts. I remember it only seemed to see a tiny subset of my pictures.
At the moment, many DLNA devices seem to get upset by the sort of high-res photos that many quite ordinary cameras are now capable of producing, so until Serviio dynamically resizes them to the maximum supported res - the image handling has some way to improve. I think Zip stated a while back that video is the main focus for now, and some of these other areas will get more development later. If you report everything carefully on the forums (with logs etc.) you will be helping to move the project forward.

Re: Work in progress - Package for Synology NAS
If you have high res images (e.g. 15MPix) it needs all 384 MB of RAM, otherwise it hangs with OutOfMemory error and stops adding your files. I'm not sure how much memory the NAS has and how much you have allocated to the JVM (-Xmx parameter)

Re: Work in progress - Package for Synology NAS
Hi,
I don't look at the photo-thing anymore as I use the Samsung Build-in player for that.
About the movie's, so the DS111 is not powerfull enough to transcode movies. Is it better then to run Serviio on a pc and map the 'moviefolder' on the NAS to the pc, and then connect Serviio to the TV by using my pc? That means I can let go of the Serviio-package on the Nas, can't I?
Or is there any other thing I can do, or do you want a log-file when I play a 'stuttering-movie'?
You say, I will try
