Sony BDV-L600 won't read many .avi files

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, and some people recommended the Serviio server for my BD system (european), and it looks fantastic, but i'm having issues reading many .avi files, 1/2 approx won't read, i get a message from the BD player wich says : "fichier altéré ou format non pris en charge" wich means in english : "altered file or unsupported format."

I've read much on this forum, and i tried using several profiles, this is the one i actually use :
  Code:
    <Profile id="14" name="Sony BD Player (EU)" extendsProfileId="1">
              <!-- European models only - check Serviio forums for profiles for other regions -->

Re: Sony BDV-L600 won't read many .avi files

You're using a profile from an older version of Serviio which is not recommended. People only posted separate profiles on here when it was being developed, so really you should use the default one that's included with Serviio 0.5.2. Read the sticky post for info about specific tweaks (subtitle or DTS audio related, mostly).

It's possible the BD rejects the file because AC-3 audio in AVI is maybe not supported by Sony. I don't have any of that type to test, but try editing the Sony BDP section of the 0.5.2 profiles.xml changing this:

  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts">
            <Matches container="matroska" />
            <!-- remux mp4 container files to mpeg-ts to allow seeking -->
            <!-- this also fixes the renderer's jerky playback of mov container files such as iPhone 4 HD video recordings -->
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" />
         </Video>

into this:

  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts">
            <Matches container="matroska" />
            <!-- remux mp4 container files to mpeg-ts to allow seeking -->
            <!-- this also fixes the renderer's jerky playback of mov container files such as iPhone 4 HD video recordings -->
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" />
            <Matches container="avi" aCodec="ac3" />
         </Video>

Re: Sony BDV-L600 won't read many .avi files

Thanks for the answer, i edited the profile as you said, and i am now using the default "sony BD player" profile, but no improvement, one file out of two will not read.

I restarted completly the PC, but still nothing. I've read through the help sections, sticky posts, but most of them speak about reading MKV files with subtitles, but in my case, i can't even read most of my AVI files...

Nobody wrote in the forum about that Sony BDV-L600, maybe the firmware is just very limited, and can't read many mpeg formats, but in that case, can i try transcoding the incompatible formats? I just dont know where to start for that...

---------------------------------------------------
EDIT :

I've tried to connect my bravia TV to the network, and add it in serviio with "bravia tv" profile, and it works great, i even get thumbnails for all the videos.
But with the BD system, i dont get any thumbnail, and most files still won't play.
I tried to change de "hhtpheaders" regex with the renderer name i could find in the BD system's menu :
<HttpHeaders>
<X-AV-Client-Info>.*blu-ray home theatre system.*</X-AV-Client-Info>
</HttpHeaders>
But after a reboot of the PC, still no luck, and honestly, i don't really understand which device is the renderer, if it's the serviio server or the BD system device.

HEre is the profile i'm actually using :
  Code:
   <Profile id="10" name="Sony BD Player" extendsProfileId="1">
      <!-- Since Serviio 0.5.1 this profile is multiregion -->
      <Detection>
         <HttpHeaders>

Re: Sony BDV-L600 won't read many .avi files

Hmm, probably no one uses one of this bdv-l600 device.

I'm very confused of where resides the interest in DLNA technology, where a simple SMB link works just fine.
It's convenient to be able to transcode, remux, etc, formats unsupported by client devices, but this features does not work most of the time anyways, either you get audio / video sync problems, quality loss, either you can't skip, pause, stop, or do anything without having your device going completly berserk and/or not responding.

Instead of losing time and money working on DLNA, manufacturers should just include more codecs into theyr firmware devices to support more video formats.
That's just my opinion, maybe for other people, it suits just fine theyr needs. For me, i am disapointed, and my cheap; 30€ worth "made in romania" divx player plays much more things over SMB than my expensive bravia TV or my expensive BDplayer using this impressive DLNA technology.
