Mac user with a PS3

Ok, I have searched here and have read the FAQ to no avail. How the heck do I get my PS3 to play all my .mov files? I used to run PS3 Media Server, but got tired of waiting for them to update that software on the Mac. I found Serviio and tried it out. So far I really like it. Very FAST. It plays all my other video files PSM used to play EXCEPT for any .MOV files though. I either get data corrupt or not compatible message. They ether come from Apple movie trailers of my little Kodak PlaySport. Can someone help me out here?

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Could you post "ffmpeg-i" result of your .mov file (see my signature links)? Also MediaInfo result.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Those ffmpeg -i instructions make no sense at all to a Mac person. I found the executable ffmpeg by showing package contents of the Serviio app. I opened it but it wont let me run any commands. Running the command in a new terminal window was fruitless. Walk me through it please.

Opinion: While this software clearly has advantages over PS3 Media Server, I never had to go through anything like this when setting it up. Kind of a pain for the non-techie... although, I'm smart enough to be a web developer. :-) Hopefully I can figure this out.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

FYI: Here is some information I was able to collect from QuickTime player about the MOV files I typically try to stream:

Kodak PlaySport HD Video Camera:
H.264
1920x1080
AAC 48,000hz
29.97fps

Apple Quicktime Movie Trailers:
H.264
1920x800
AAC 44,100hz
23.98fps

Not sure if that will help...

Please provide MediaInfo result of your .mov file

We need h264 encoding settings: profile, level,etc.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Format profile : Main@L4.2

H264 profile is too high for the PS3, limited to 4.1

You probably have to transode the video to mpeg2.

Color me confused... These files play fine when copied to the PS3 internal hard drive. No converting needed.

Confused too...no more ideas.
Try remux these files manually into mpeg2ts or try re-encode video and audio to mpeg2/ac3 with Tsmuxer or ffmpeg.
The problem is not due to Serviio...its in the side of ffmpeg or PS3 decoder...

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Really? Someone on this forum must have a way to watch Quicktime movies with Serviio on a Mac? If I have to convert videos, then Serviio is not the solution for me. Might have to go back to the clunky out-dated PSM. Sadly, the Mac version hasn't been updated in over a year. I want to get this to work though...

Re: Mac user with a PS3

First test:

Could you edit the profiles.xml file and edit the PS3 section with that following, save, then restart serviio service
  Code:
   <Profile id="4" name="Playstation 3" extendsProfileId="1">
      <Detection>
         <HttpHeaders>
            <X-AV-Client-Info>.*PLAYSTATION 3.*</X-AV-Client-Info>
         </HttpHeaders>
      </Detection>
      <MediaFormatProfiles>
         <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/divx">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
      </MediaFormatProfiles>
      <Transcoding>
         <!--
            remux MKV with any video to MPEG2TS and possibly change audio to ac3, also AVI anfd FLV with H264
         -->
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
            <Matches container="matroska" />
            <Matches container="avi" vCodec="h264" />
            <Matches container="flv" vCodec="h264" />
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" />
         </Video>
         <!-- all other unplayable files just transcode to mpeg2 -->
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" targetVCodec="mpeg2video">
            <Matches container="flv" />

Second test:

Could you try with that:
  Code:

      </MediaFormatProfiles>
      <Transcoding>
         <!-- Transcode all h264 video with HIGH/MAIN > Level 4.1 on MPEG-TS stream with MPEG2VIDEO and ac3 audio transcoding -->
         <!--  expected profile MPEG_TS_SD_EU/MPEG_TS_SD_NA/MPEG_TS_SD_KO -->
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="384">
            <Matches container="avi" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
            <Matches container="avi" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />

            <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
         </Video>
         <!--

         -->
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">

Nope. Only thing in there is ffmpeg and JavaApplicationStub. When I do a search on my system for profiles.xml, nothing comes up. Obviously it's hidden somewhere...

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Found it. I had to right-click on the app, and show package contents. It's located in Serviio.app/Contents/Resources/Java/config/profiles.xml The average Mac user would never know where to find that. That info should be stickied somewhere on this forum.
