Sony Internet TV (Google TV)

Does anyone have any experience with the Sony Internet TV (Google TV) model series NSX-nnGT1 where the nn is screen size 40", 46", etc. I don't see a Serviio profile for it, and when we use the Generic profile or any other porfile for that matter, we only see .mpeg files in the folders that appear on the TV. Even then when we run the .mpeg we only hear sound, we get no video. Any answers would be appreciated, we are seriously considering returning this TV and looking at something else. Does anyone know if there is an "internet" TV (plugs directly to a LAN) that works with Serviio and will transcode properly?

Look at my last signature link to know formats supported by your device...

I downloaded and installed the tools, but the Device Spy never "sees" my Sony TV with the network scan. I tried "Manually Add Device" under "File" menu, entered the TVs IP address as the URI, but I get an error box back that says "Could not load the device". We know the TV talks UPnP because it does see your server and sort of tries to work. Ideas?

Ok. no luck.
Could you enable detailed logging (see signature) and post here, when you restart serviio service?

According to the DLNA certification : http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG12612224.pdf
It seems that this device only support Image over DLNA.
According to the specification too.
Media Player Playback (Video/Photo/Music)
* DLNA (DMP) : Photo
* UPnP Client : Video/Music/Photo
* USB : USB Mass Storage Class

Hopefully the UPnP client should be enough

You have to find at least one format that your Internet Sony TV can read, after that, we could provide transcoding option for others formats.
There were many samples here

The TV will support MPEG4 (.mp4) files with H.264 or DivX codecs. This seems to be the only video it will play.

Any chance we could transcode everything to MPEG-4? What does it take to create a profile, we do lots of work here with XML, but have no experience with DLNA or UPnP. Like to see if we can get Serviio to work, it is the "slickest" of the DLNA media servers we have looked at. Thoughts?

Not possible to transcode to mp4, the container is not suitable for real time transcoding. Only megps, mpegts and asf

Only megps, mpegts and asf

So if you can read one of these formats, we could create a specific profile for your Google TV

Ok, I am admittedly a newbie on this media streaming and transcoding, but I thought the idea was to transcode any video type (.avi, .mpg, mp4, mov, .mwv, etc) on the fly to any video type that your device could read. Am I misunderstanding this process?

After further checking it looks like the Sony TV will play mpegs that are higher than MPEG-1 (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, etc). Is this what you mean by transcoding to mpeg?

Thanks

I am trying to understand the Serviio's profile.xml, and I don't see a "Matches container=" for .wmv or .mov though I admit I'm not sure of what I am seeing here. I know that the .wmv files in my folder do not show up in the list that Serviio publishes for Video files. Again, what am I missing here?

You can only transcode to a certain number of containers / codecs - and hope the TV will support them. The devices usually support at least mepg2 so there is a possibility to transcode to that in the worst case scenario.

Regarding your question of profiles transcoding setup, did you read this? http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=24

I see it is up the community to add a device, how do we go about that? I think with the aid of your link we could create a profile for this TV, how do I get the server software to "see" this new profile?
