Problem displaying subtitles in MKV files on Sony BDPS370

I have followed the steps in the post by Patters http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2004 to try and get subtitles to work when using MKV files but whenever I try to play an mkv file I keep getting the message "The file is corrupt or unsupported". The Sony BDPS370 is displaying the files as DIVX with an asterisk against the title.

I have looked at the post regarding compression in mkv files and mediainfo mentions nothing about compression.

I'm now stuck so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could you post "ffmpeg -i" result of your file?

Could you post MkvInfo result of your file? ( to check header compression and profile level)

Do you use an EU or US Sony BDP model?

I assume it is an EU player as bought in the UK, is there a simple way to check?

I think it only plays subtitles for srt in mkv but your subtitles are in .sub format.
