Samsung BD-D6900M MKV's are an unsupported format

I am just wondering if anyone can help me. I have just bought a BD-D6900M bluray player with smart hub, and ensured it is up to date. Whenever I attempt to play MKV files, it advises me that im trying to play an unsupported format. If i play the same mkv file on my Samsung UE40D7000, the same MKV file plays fine. I have noticed in the servio console, it states that the device is unknown, so i have changed it to Samsung TV/Player C/D however this has not corrected the issue. My Samsung D7000 is recognised fine in the Servio Console. Im guessing this is a profile issue, unfortunately I have no experience with these profiles, so cannot correct it myself.
Can anyone help???/
Thanks
Brian

Can you post information on both what formats the device can play and information on the video. See signature for both.

Did you have the machine on and in the DLNA mode when you tried? Some machines do not show up.

i had the bluray player powered on, servio selected as its source, and at the menu where it displayed the folders that servio was presenting to it.

It plays the following. From
http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG23645541.pdf- Code:
Image - Play only
JPEG_LRG
JPEG_MED
JPEG_SM
Audio - Play and Stop
LPCM
MP3
Video - Play and Stop
MPEG_PS_NTSC
MPEG_TS_SD_NA
MPEG_TS_SD_NA_ISO
MPEG_TS_SD_NA_T
This player is limited in what it can play via DLNA.
I would try the DirectTV profile since it transcodes everything.
- Code:
To make a custom profile you will have to do the following.
You will need to edit the profiles.xml file per below.
You will need to copy the existing samsung c & d profile and paste it at the end of the file, renumber the profile to the next number. And edit the new profile to transcode to one of the above.

ah so what your saying is that the player cannot play mkv's where the tv's can. how strange.
Again I know nothing about profiles, however does the Samsung C/D one not already do this?? It states it transcodes to mpegts which appears to be what you have advised is the format this player supports.

Samsung C/D profile provides Matroska in
native format (h264 with aac or ac3 audio)
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-mkv">MATROSKA</MediaFormatProfile>
only some no standard mkv are remuxed or transcoded
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="flac" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="vorbis" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="truehd" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="vc1" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="mpeg2video" />

In the console try using the DirectTV profile and see if the MKV's play, from there we can customize a profile to work better.

Ok this is a start then. Since the directTV profile transcodes everything, we will need to create a new profile and copy the directTV profile there. Once we have done that we can work on automatic selection and tweaking the profile to only transcode what has to be transcoded.
Can you profile the ffmpeg -i and mediatool information on one of the MKV's that are was not playing before selecting the directTV profile.
Can you also enable
detailed logging and try and play something. What we are looking for in the log is the "Name" of the D6900M that serviio is seeing. This will allow us to do the automatic selection of the correct profile.

AFAIC all the D series are the same and use the same firmware.
You need to post the ffmpeg -i and mediainfo output for this file so we can figure out why the C/D profile is not doing the job for you. My BD-D5300 plays all my mkv's without problem but there are reasons some files need tweaks in the c/d profile, but without the file info no one can do the necessary analysis. Even better is to upload the file to a U/D service so we can test it for you.

I have a D5300 but all most all my files are in AVI format. I need to check mkv's on mine.
