Yep, the wmv encoder in FFmpeg is not multi-cpu ready unfortunately.

Re: MKV files stutter.

zip: Any reason why the picture becomes blocky when fast forwarding (skipping to a certain point) using PS3? Because Serviio is otherwise much less CPU intensive and more impressive than PS3 Media Server.

Re: MKV files stutter.

it that blocky only for a while or for the rest of the video? If only for a while it's kind of expected as it's waiting for the next key frame to appear in the stream to sort itself out.

Re: MKV files stutter.

For the rest of the video on .mkv x264, if it was only for a while I wouldn't mind. It does not sort itself out.

Edit: Look @ 38 & 46 seconds into this video - http://www.mediafire.com/?cbff7f8y2qlq85i

Re: MKV files stutter.

No, it seems to happen with all .mkv files I try. Ones that work fine with other players.

Edit: Same problem goes for resuming files.

Re: MKV files stutter.

do you see the same behaviour if you copy the stf file from transcoding folder to the library and rename it to .mpg? It'll then play natively.

Re: MKV files stutter.

Trying now... Doesn't want to fast forward. Just freezes.

Edit: Fast forwarding takes half a minute, though no artifacts on .mpg file. Seems to work fine, though takes a long time to fast forward.

Re: MKV files stutter.

Not really ;-/ Might be the 5 series is not able to cope, I thought DLNA was on 6xx onwards only anyway (at least that was the case with B series). Did I ask you to try with Samsung's All Share server?

Re: MKV files stutter.

zip: This blocky picture happened on the PS3 though. The Samsung Allshare suffers from stuttering playback, especially noticeable on the audio. All I can think of is some sort of pre-buffer setting, since the TV managed to play back the .mkv file natively (from a USB stick).

I can try with the Samsung one, but Serviio Windows client works fine on the TV, it's the Mac (OSX) Client I'm having problems with so I don't think it has anything to do with the TV. Are there any log files I can send you to troubleshoot this? Is it using all the processing power it needs?

Re: MKV files stutter.

Hmm, I'm running out of ideas here.

PS3 Media Server (OSX Client) to PS3 = Extreme CPU usage
PS3 Media Server (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Stuttering playback
Serviio (OSX Client) to PS3 = Skipping back or forwards results in blocky picture the rest of the video
Serviio (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Stuttering playback
Serviio (OSX Client) to Xbox 360 = Stuttering playback

Serviio (Windows Client) to Samsung TV = Appears to work fine

Re: MKV files stutter.

There is no difference, code wise, in the OSX and Windows version. I don't have a Mac myself so cannot troubleshoot this, but others have it working.

Is there something with the Java version?

Re: MKV files stutter.

Java on OSX Lion can only be updated with Software Update afaik (I should have the latest version automatically with Software Update).

Edit: Could it be OS X Lion 10.7.2? Wouldn't be the first time.

I don't know about OS X, but in windows I would also check the resources monitor while streaming. Maybe some system process is using hdd or network too drastically for proper streaming.

Image

It's so close to working. I even used an Ethernet cable directly from the MacBook Pro to the TV now. Shouldn't it be using more resources than this?

I still think it's related to the OS X Lion Power Saver feature. The audio drop is the most noticeable.

Would that decrease network card performance?

Good point, I could try the WiFi as well. But I would have to buy a USB WiFi adapter for the Samsung TV

Re: MKV files stutter.

I've tried disabling all the Auto-Turn off Power Saver features available in Lion, but it still looks like this - http://www.mediafire.com/?vdz5jz115d8t2au

Are there any older versions of Serviio I can try? I appreciate the help so far.

Updated list:

MediaLink (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Not supported format
Playback (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Not supported format
PS3 Media Server (OSX Client) to PS3 = Extreme CPU usage
PS3 Media Server (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Stuttering playback
Serviio (OSX Client) to PS3 = Skipping back or forwards results in blocky picture the rest of the video
Serviio (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Stuttering playback
Serviio (OSX Client) to Xbox 360 = Stuttering playback
TVMOBiLi (OSX Client) to Samsung TV = Stuttering playback

Serviio (Windows Client) to Samsung TV = Appears to work fine

All faulty playbacks have the following in common:
OSX Lion (yet .mp4 works fine)
OSX Java (yet .mp4 works fine)
.mkv x264/H.264
