HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymore -

I have been using Serviio for years, it is the greatest tool for my media library. I stream through Samsung BD C6900.
I performed an upgrade of Serviio to release 1.5.2 and now my BD can't see the computer.

I tried to revert back to earlier version and even did a computer system restore, but still no computer is shown from the BD.
I did a factory reset on the BD player, everything internet works except I can't see my own computer through Serviio.

I use Static IP,
I pinged the IP of the BD Player and it is found
Reset Server many times....Connections are verified.

This version of Serviio does not have an ADD button for new devices, How can I manually add a new device with specific IP address.

Can anybody PLEASE make some suggestions, I miss my Serviio services.

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

I removed Serviio and started from scratch with an earlier release 1.0.1
It contains the ADD and REFRESH buttons but neither are bringing up any results from a potential of 6 devices.
So i checked my Norton Firewall settings and added Serviio from the Program Files directory.
That still did not bring up any devices.

Is there any reason that anyone can give me why Serviio has suddenly stopped working after performing an upgrade.
It is very frustrating as it all worked for years and now it just stopped.

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

You need to go back to basics.

  • Disable all firewalls, antivirus, etc
  • Remove all devices from the profile list. Press refresh.
  • On the device if there is any option to clear the server list, do that.
  • Make sure all devices are on the same subnet (ie. all their IP addresses are same except the number after the last ".")
Did you change anything else (routers, switches, etc)?

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

So I did just that, went back to basics.

First i installed a dual boot to check the installation of Serviio on another drive.
Installed Serviio v1.0.1 then 1.2.1 then 1.3.1 then 1.5.2 each one works perfect
Status refreshed automatically with all devices and IP addresses
Started BD and it shows everything fine on the external device
Works perfect .... then

Returned to original drive - disabled virus protection
Uninstalled Serviio
Deleted any entry in the registry file referencing Serviio
Disabled all firewall activity in Norton
Installed Serviio 1.0.1 - nothing refreshes in the list of devices
Manually added the device with correct IP address
Nothing shows in up when the BD Player is started.
Changed the rules in Norton to allow Serviio - no change

This is mind boggling. It must be a setting in either Windows or third party app that is disabling the Serviio from talking to anything outside the computer.
Checked all DLNA references and don't see anything unusual.

I pinged the IP address of the BD Player and it comes back, i pinged other devices and they all return good.

the fact that refresh doesn't bring up a device makes me think the Serviio app is looking for a way out but can't see anything.

Question. how do you remove Serviio and all of the related settings so when i do a fresh install, it will not have any of the previous settings.

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

After you uninstall Serviio, check the C:\program files folder and make sure the Serviio folder is not there. If it is, delete it.

While this is the location that all my Serviio installations are located, you might double-check the c:\program files(x86) folder as well.

That will ensure there's no lingering Serviio settings.

Post a detailed log showing Serviio starting. I am concerned that the Bound IP address box isn't populated which suggest the WIC can't be found. The screen shots - are they from the working or non-working boot ( or one of each?)

There is a folder in c:\program files (x86)\Serviio I didn't quite understand what you mean by ensuring there's no lingering settings. Should there be a folder in Programfiles(x86) ? I assume that is a correct setting. please let me know if it should be installed somewhere else. It's been there for last 3 years.

Thank you for your reply. I have attached the log file found in the Serviio config directory. I hope these are the startlog you were referencing
Log4j.xml

I clicked on the link in your reply that showed to make a change in the file (capture 1) change INFO to DEBUG but then Serviio wouldn't start (Capture 2) so now i changed it back

As for your question on the uploaded screen shots (BTW I apologize for the size of those pictures, I have to learn to reduce them because they come across as huge).
Those are taken after the new installation which is NOT working. I manually added those devices after installing version 1.0.1. I used the same IP addresses that were in the previous working version
However, I do not have that capability for any version following because there is no add button. The two screenshots show two different versions. The reason for this is to show how there was an add button that disappeared in the next version. When I reinstalled version 1.0.1, no devices were detected this screen was empty.

When I installed a later version without the add button no devices are shown.

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

Here is an interesting tidbit of information.
I installed a dual boot system and after installing Serviio on my second boot drive, everything is found and it works perfectly. Same computer, same set up, same connections.
Why does it work on my second boot drive but not my original boot drive?

I cannot reinstall everything on my second boot drive just to accommodate Serviio, but I wanted to see if it had anything to do with the connections. So I think I've proven that it's a software issue in my first boot drive

Also I would like to add that I changed the modem yesterday as I upgraded my Internet service.

I really appreciate the few comments I've received however, is there a support service at Serviio which can assist me? Or is it all the support provided through the forum chat.
No offense and I'm not complaining however, I could sure use some professional support to get this issue resolved.
It has gone on for far too long and I don't want to start searching for alternatives after being comfortable with Serviio for this many years.

Yes, remove that folder as well. I've never seen Serviio install to the (x86) folder, but who knows. After a complete uninstall, you don't want a folder left behind because there could be a configuration file that you don't want to use. That may explain why your clean install on the 2nd boot drive worked correctly. I'm thinking a reinstall (after making sure those folders are all gone) will restore functionality on the original boot drive.

As far as official support from Serviio, this forum is pretty much it. There's only a single person responsible for Serviio (Zip), and he will answer as time permits through the forum. I don't claim to be a Serviio insider or expert, but I know enough about computers and networking to offer some assistance. Hope it helps some! :D

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

Here is the result of wiping out everything and doing a fresh new installation of version 1.5.2
It does not pick up any device.

I am at my wits end on this. How/Why does an application just stop working after 2 years.
There must be some troubleshooting guide I can follow. A checklist .... anything that helps a layman to troubleshoot.

I am just an end user, not a computer tech.
I was very excited to cut the cord on cable subscription and stood behind Serviio recommending it to all my peers.

I cannot criticize the app as it worked fine and still does on another boot, but I was hoping for some type of troubleshoot procedure.
The impact of this experience made me realize how complacent we can get taking for granted our applications will continue to work.
Then some insignificant stupid little change impacts the way the app works and you spend weeks trying to figure it out disrupting your already busy life.

I had to vent ...as I am starting to think that I have no choice but to rebuilt my entire computer again, the OS and all the applications and settings to accommodate this one very important required service. oh well, I will let this stew for a while and maybe by some miracle something will come around.

Re: HELP please...Samsung BD C6900 won't show Serviio anymor

On the status panel, you have "Auto Detect" selected for your IP address. Does this install have a static IP address for the computer? If not, I highly recommend it. Then you can select the IP address in the box, rather than letting it detect. Then restart the Serviio Service (easiest to just reboot the computer) then see if things begin to show up.

If you have questions about configuring a static IP, there are lots of web sites that can help, and we can too if you still have issues.
